Bucs cutting Seferian-Jenkins after DUI arrest

The Buccaneers have apparently parted ways with tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, hours after Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on DUI charges.

Seferian-Jenkins tweeted a thank you to Tampa Bay Friday afternoon and wrote that he’s on to the “next chapter.”

He was released from jail Friday morning.

A second-round pick of the Bucs in 2014, Seferian-Jenkins started 12 of the 18 games he played over parts of three seasons. He has 45 career receptions, seven for touchdowns.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times followed Seferian-Jenkins’ tweet with one of his own that said the Bucs are planning to release Seferian-Jenkins.

This is how you build a winner. ASF, this doesn’t have to be the end. Grow up and own it and who knows…follow the path Cris Carter set and you might end up in the Hall of Fame

This freaking guy… Just threw away his career behind drinking and driving. SMH!!!

    Right on, Colin!!!

It’s going to suck when someone like the Steelers pick him up and he becomes an all-pro.

  11. galtsgulch902 says: Sep 23, 2016 2:20 PM

He needs to stop hitting snooze on those wake-up calls.

  12. baldbuc says: Sep 23, 2016 2:22 PM

OK, there it is again. Another high draft choice thrown away due to off field garbage. What happens next is Belichick will pick him up and he will become an All-Pro just like former Buc trouble makers like Aqib Talib and LaGarrette Blount. We’ve danced to this song several times before.

Those self driving cars can’t get here fast enough for some of these football players!

  14. seanpscott says: Sep 23, 2016 2:24 PM

What amazes me is the NFL gives everyone a number they can call 24 hours a day to get a ride home FOR FREE! Any NFL player that gets a DUI is just a moron, plain and simple. I hope nobody picks him up

Jerruh Jones just found his new TE for when Witten retires.

  16. baldbuc says: Sep 23, 2016 2:37 PM

He hasn’t been a model citizen here either. He was kicked out of out of practice at least once during camp for dogging it. He’s also hurt a lot. The DUI was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

  18. nhpats says: Sep 23, 2016 2:43 PM

The Bucs did the right thing. Why didn’t the Bills do this when McCoy beat up off duty police officers?

  19. magnumpimustache says: Sep 23, 2016 2:45 PM

    Brilliant Move on his part.

Get out of Tampa and go to a winner.

    Just like aqib talib

I could see the Pats putting in a waivers claim for him….
Pats locker room is strong & the kid is talented & just needs direction & discipline….sure he’ll be suspended 4 games but that actually works out great for the Pats as they have no immediate need for him & can ride the suspension out….
I’d be happy to see him given a shot with the Pats…. They should offer a 7th rounder for him so he doesn’t have to clear waivers as Pats are real low on that list….

Seferian-Jenkins tweeted a thank you to Tampa Bay Friday afternoon and wrote that he’s on to the “next chapter.”

Based on what he shown off the field the last few years I’m afraid to know what that next chapter is.

  22. sportsmediasameasnewsmedia says: Sep 23, 2016 3:09 PM

Hmmm…what’s the big deal? It is his right to drink and drive, oh, that’s right the NFL is a private company, so they can make their employees do certain things (like not drink/drive or you’ll be punished, or like standing up and respecting the American flag – that would be nice)

  23. idiedpretty says: Sep 23, 2016 3:14 PM

If he was any good, they would have given him a second chance.

  24. baldbuc says: Sep 23, 2016 3:19 PM

The other thing is this, Bucs had practice today at 8 am. He got pulled over just after 4 am. No wonder the guy was dogging it at practice. How well can you practice with around 2 hours sleep and a hangover?

  25. hawkstradamus says: Sep 23, 2016 3:22 PM

He’s had several “wake up calls” and he’s still an idiot. I Remember when he was a HS blue chip prospect, on tv all the time, got a big head and figured the rules didn’t apply to him in college so he got booted there too. Oh well. He has talent, so he will probably get four or five more chances.

  26. htowntexan says: Sep 23, 2016 3:35 PM

Texans need to pick this guy up. Our tight ends suck, and a DUI shouldn’t prevent the guy from ever playing again.

  27. 7ftgriff says: Sep 23, 2016 3:55 PM

As a 49ers fan I’d be thrilled if Baalke took a flyer on ASJ, yes he has some red flags, and yes he’ll be suspended for this, but the potential is worth taking a shot at, and he’s better than any TE currently on our roster.

  28. loumann says: Sep 23, 2016 4:05 PM

I’ve driven drunk a hundred times……he’s got no luck

  29. mikeed575 says: Sep 23, 2016 4:31 PM

49ers should claim him. He’s got size and talent. Balke make the move

  30. dohczeppelin says: Sep 23, 2016 4:38 PM

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills make a move for him. We already have a bunch of scumbags on the roster. What’s one more? We have zero depth behind Clay at tight end after losing Gragg in the preseason. O’leary should be on the practice squad at best.

  31. bassplucker says: Sep 23, 2016 4:55 PM

What’s the “next chapter”? Hard time?

As for the Bucs, Vincent Jackson is as tall as a TE. Put 15 lbs on him and he’d do great there since he’s slowing down a bit anyways.

  32. The Truth says: Sep 23, 2016 5:15 PM

That’s all he did ? That qualifies for man of the year consideration in this NFL . Garbage league

  33. stinkymcmulligan says: Sep 23, 2016 5:44 PM

A loser on the field and off of it too

  34. nyneal says: Sep 23, 2016 5:47 PM

Yeah, he’s on to the next chapter. He’ll get arrested for drugs.

  35. baldbuc says: Sep 23, 2016 6:06 PM

Just saw the dash cam video of his arrest. He is a bigger idiot than I thought. The officer was going let him off with a warning however he kept talking (slurring) about how he appreciates it and going to give a ball to a policeman the next time he scores a TD, etc etc, the he goes on about how he has to take a (#2) … all of that lead to the officer asking him if he had been drinking, which lead to his arrest. If he would have shut up and taken the warning this would have never occurred.

  36. bucsorbust says: Sep 23, 2016 6:27 PM

Well, he hasn’t shot himself, or anyone else, so he’s not a good fit with the Patriots. Give him time.

Glad he won’t be driving on Tampa Bay area roads any more.

  37. mrcneff says: Sep 23, 2016 6:34 PM

The Bucs did the right thing. Why didn’t the Bills do this when McCoy beat up off duty police officers?

    ———————————————————————————–Because they started it.

  38. newmancave2016 says: Sep 23, 2016 7:26 PM

Eagles should sign him and make him a receiver

  39. codiablo says: Sep 23, 2016 7:41 PM

He fumbled away his chance just like against the Vikings…that was BOSS!

  40. number1hawkfan says: Sep 24, 2016 2:32 AM

Of course a niner fan would come on here and want to give him a chance. Look at the niners track record. Aldon smith, Bruce Miller, Ray McDonald, Ahmad brooks, Chris culliver and even kaperchoke. Ranging from drunk driving, weed, beating a 70 year old half to death, sexual assault and just being all around tool sheds. Nobody has it better. And apparently happy with the direction of your franchise.
