Greg Hardy caught with cocaine, claims it’s not his

Getty Images

Former Cowboys and Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was arrested on Sunday after police found cocaine during a traffic stop.

Hardy was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal, police asked to search him, and he agreed, police say. When they looked in his wallet, they found 0.7 grams of cocaine.

The police report says that Hardy told the officer that he didn’t know what the substance was. Hardy said that the night before, he had passed his wallet around a party because he was paying for everyone, and someone must have put the cocaine in his wallet at the time.

Hardy was booked into jail in Richardson, Texas, and released on $5,000 bond.

Once among the best pass rushers in the NFL, Hardy was benched for 15 games by the Panthers in 2014 as a result of a domestic violence accusation. Although charges were later dropped, the NFL suspended Hardy for the start of the 2015 season. He finished 2015 playing for the Cowboys but has generated no interest as a free agent this year. His career is now likely over.

So, Hardy was “paying for everyone” …. except for the cocaine …… which ended up in HIS wallet??

Thanks for clearing that up, Greg, I was about to jump to a conclusion 😉

Pretty dumb of Hardy to allow a search while in possession of cocaine (it’s not clear whether his wallet was inside the car of if he passed his wallet to the officer). Since he was given a verbal warning for the improper use of signal, I’m guessing that he was given a choice – “I’ll give you a warning, but I can only do that if you consent to a search.” It’s a clever variation of the stop and frisk.

Please understand that this is not in support of the possession, distribution or use of cocaine but the greatness of our country is how the Constitution protects the least of us.

I suspect that a good lawyer will have this thrown out as an illegal search despite his consent to be searched. If the police report speaks to erratic driving or under the influence behavior at the stop and is corroborated by dash cam video, field sobriety or administered blood test. then Hardy is toast. If the police report is unsupported by any of these, on the basis of his cooperation with the police and improbability of arrest were the drugs not found, a fishing expedition search through his wallet could be deemed as unreasonable.

    Just sayin’

Funny the drugs never belong to the guy caught but if its money, oh yes that belongs to me.

I think you are being a little hard on him. My 1987 Chevy Malibu turning light doesn’t always work either. If he’s driving the same car as me he likely has the same problem.

I hope you’re kidding. Granted, police are allowed and encouraged to use judgement in these matters, but it is legitimate to wonder what aroused the officer’s suspicions, whether in dealing with Greg Hardy or you.

Maybe it was the white powder on his nose….

  122. doggeatdogg says: Sep 27, 2016 1:42 PM

Why would you allow your car searched for a minor traffic violation specially knowing that may very well be the nail on your career’s coffin. Why is the cop searching your damn wallet. If you have a weapon, it better be licensed. You say no and call your attorney if you have one, at least it will help with an explanation for the drugs and it would not be as lame as this. I’m not saying drugs are OK, but things have to be done on the up and up or people will clog up the system by declining a search.

He should have said that he sat down on a park bench that day and it must have, like, lodged itself into the wallet.

Who gives a damn if it is his cocaine? It’s not the nfl’s business, it’s not the police’s business, and it’s not your business. If he wants to snort yay, that’s his business

In my younger years i dabbled with the powder. I remember this much… you never forget you’re holding it and especially when cops are around. Why he let them search? I surely don’t know. But what i do know is this. He’s a dummy for letting them search him and he deserves every day in jail he gets times ten.

Well then you are more careful than most. I find 8 balls in suit jacket and blazer pockets all the time. And I’m not alone. Friends do the same. And girls are the worst. Always forgetting if in purses and clutches and bras and so on. But anyway, why does he deserve jail for blow x 10 and you don’t?

  129. bobthebillsfan says: Sep 27, 2016 2:24 PM

One time my wife found a picture of a naked girl in my wallet. I told her I passed my wallet around at a party the night before. Of course she believed me.

  130. bobthebillsfan says: Sep 27, 2016 2:25 PM

I believe him, probably was Manziel’s coke.

  131. g0hawks says: Sep 27, 2016 2:43 PM

similar to church when they pass the offering plate around? I usually toss my bag of blow in if I don’t have a twenty spot.

  132. skinsrock says: Sep 27, 2016 2:44 PM

This is why illegal searches happen all the time, because dumb people… ignorant people… won’t stick up for their rights and tell the cops NO! If a cop wants to do an illegal search, he is going to be getting his supervisor on the phone real quick if he insist he has the right.

“If pulled over for simply not using a turn signal, why did the police as to search him?”

When the police found out he’s Greg Hardy, they probably figured that they had probable cause to search him, thinking that he’s probably done “something” wrong.

  134. theawkwardyears says: Sep 27, 2016 3:05 PM

He probably passed his wallet so they could replace the money with the cocaine that he bought. Sounds like he figures there is video of someone else putting cocaine in his wallet that might exist.

So, Greg Hardy was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal!

So, Greg Hardy was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal!

So, Greg Hardy was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal!

No, Greg Hardy was pulled over for DWB! Glad he was cooperative though! Pay the fine Greg, you can afford it.

  137. PriorKnowledge says: Sep 27, 2016 6:48 PM

OK, I agree Hardy is a fool. But I also claim racial bias on this. Who gets pulled over for not signaling a turn? And if they do get pulled over, why would the police want to search him on a minor traffic stop? And a search thorough enough to find a tiny amount of cocaine in his wallet? This all seems suspicious to me.

  138. plumcrazy73 says: Sep 27, 2016 7:31 PM

When I pay for someone I don’t hand them my wallet I get my money or my card out of my wallet and hand the money or card to whoever! dummy

  139. plumcrazy73 says: Sep 27, 2016 7:56 PM

NO Hardy got pulled over for DWH (Driving While Hardy) his reputation got him extra scrutiny.

  140. whathaveyou55 says: Sep 27, 2016 11:53 PM

A signal light violation doesn’t warrant a search. What was the probable cause?
    ———————
The police ran the plate, saw it was Hardy, and based on prior experience, knew he was a dumba** who probably had done something illegal.

It had nothing to do with his race. It had everything to do with his identity.

Whenever I go out with Friends where I am paying the Tab, I also pass my Wallet around to others. … NOT!!!!

  142. cwjim says: Sep 28, 2016 10:20 AM

What really happened is he was partying too hard, and thought he did all his booger sugar. The moral of the story is don’t be greedy and stash your stuff. Lay it out for everyone. If there are too many mooches, get better friends.

  145. masher1965 says: Sep 28, 2016 8:38 PM

First, for the simple minded bigots that do not realize you are SUPPOSED to use your turn signals when turning, it is a viable reason to pull someone over. Do try to stop whining over stupid things, hmm?

    As to Hardy’s excuse…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Does he really expect people to believe he passed his wallet around at a party and someone just dropped cocaine into it?

Uhh yeah…if you believe that I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale
