#DeflateGate is officially over

On Monday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady returns from his four-game #DeflateGate suspension. When he returns, the matter will completely and officially be over.

The NFL Players Association has announced in a statement issued to NBC Sports that no further appeals will be pursued in the litigation filed (by the NFL, actually) regarding the quarter-season banishment.

“After consultation with Tom Brady and our appellate counsel, we have decided to not pursue additional appeals in this matter,” the NFLPA said.

The decision is a surprise. When the NFLPA and Brady added former U.S. Solicitor General Ted Olson to the legal team, all signs were pointing to an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which would have been the next step in the case. As Olson said during a May appearance on PFT Live, “[W]e are all very, very much committed to seeing that Tom Brady gets the justice which he is owed in this case, whatever it takes.”

From a competitive perspective, the decision means nothing, given that Brady ultimately accepted the suspension in July. As it relates to the push-and-pull between the NFL and the NFL Players Association, the decision means plenty, since the players have sacrificed an opportunity to limit Commissioner Roger Goodell’s power.

But the union had a steep uphill climb. Very few petitions submitted to the Supreme Court are rver accepted. And a chance remained that, if the Supreme Court had taken the case, it could have ruled in favor of the NFL.

From Brady’s perspective, he returns with the case finally over. It won’t be a distraction for him in any way, at any time. After dealing with the situation for more than 20 months, it’s hard to blame him for choosing not to keep trying to overturn the league’s decision.

  2. TV ratings have been lower through the first few weeks, have they not? Are people finally tiring of Goodell’s dog-and-pony show?

  3. Brady is expected to announce his retirement tomorrow morning and dude it will never be over. Brady has forever been labeled a cheater. Right or wrong he’s very ever been stamp a cheater! It nullifies every single accomplishment he’s ever had. Its all mud now.

  4. I really want to see Kraft Snub Goodell in January (He won’t show up) or in February. And theres a big awkward pause with all the main players not speaking to Goodell.
Ground probably saying something hilarious. And months worth of soundbite quotes all off-season about Goodall-Comments, etc.

Hate the Pats all you want. Tom served his time, and if they get back you will love it too!

  5. A fully focused, determined and angry Tom Brady is coming back to a 3-1 team that has sole possession of first place in its division.

Life is and continues to be good for Patriots fans.

  7. Arrest, try and convict Roger Goodell for consumer fraud.

There’s a whole lot of something on his emails and phones, showing this corruption from Park Ave, you can bank on that.

  8. Yes I’m excited to see Brady back but what can he do that Garroppolo and Brissette can’t do when they are healthy? Are there throws that only Brady can make? Let’s face it, any QB can have success in the Patriots system.

  9. When all those scientists came out to support Brady against Exponent, Brady no longer felt his reputation was threatened. Everyone knows this was concocted, even those who go on message boards to Vex and vent and role play a belief in Brady’s guilt

  10. I have to say I think the QB situation worked out in Toms favor. Had Jimmy G lit up teams the last 2 weeks there may have been controversy IF Tom had a few bad games.

Just as the schedule begins to pick up. The cheats won’t finish better than 9-7. Team is full of holes. Defense is trash. Line is garbage. Gronk is walking IR. Ahahaha.🙂

I will lose it laughing if they lose to the Browns.

  13. Anyone who thinks Kraft is very upset with Goodell needs to scratch beneath the surface. Kraft has been buddying and meeting with Goodell many times during the whole proceedings of Deflate Gate. There was never any doubt Kraft was going to take the punishment. Nothing he said after that matter. It was all a show for the fans. Goodell was handpicked and developed by Kraft. He is a Frankenstein of Krafts own making. Kraft is an NFL man first and the owner of the Patriots second. He’d sell Brady out quicker than ice melts on fire to further the league. Brady is a smart guy and understands all of this. He’s willing to shut up and bow his head just to get on the field a few more times while he can.

    AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAJAJAJAJA

  15. When will Patriot Haters team fold?

It is OUTRAGEOUS that Tom Brady has to stoop beneath his dignity and his level to step on the field with such laughable inferiority with their inferior fans arfing and clapping.

Time to fold them all and let a REAL MAN’s team take a shot at the GOAT. The GOAT will appreciate the competition as would we all.

    Enough is enough.

  23. Delfalegate is over. Now we’re waiting for the next controversy from bellichek.
Whats going to be his excuse this time? He already used the excuse that he “misinterpreted the rules”

    Brady already destroyed his cellphone.

Pats “fans” already booed their team off the field and left the stadium during the game( like Belli-cheat did in the 1st SBvs the Giants)

That franchise is the basket of deplorable

Seriously, you have to come up with something better

Did I mention your dolphins are in last place?

  29. Well at least Brissette did not stink up joint bad enough to be benched today like Brady did against Kansas City in 2014.

    Yes.

  31. Is IT? or will media hacks like you keep talking about it until your dying day? We know Patriot fan won’t let it die

  32. The Patriots lose and the trolls are out. They are 3-1, anyone who thinks they wouldnt have done better today with Brady or Garappolo is crazy. Although I do think anyone who thought the Pats could do fine without Brady is crazy also, especially fellow Patriots fans. It didnt take long for Brissett to be exposed and while he played well only saw about 6 quarters of Garappolo. I think he would have seen some regression when coaches got more tape of him. On the other hand the Pats get a QB back that DC have been trying to shut down for over a decade, his boost to the team is going to be great. Pats survived the 4 game loss even if they didnt go 4-0.

  33. Not exactly the lasting stain to the #GCOAT is permanent

By the way has the “deflator” lost weight yet?

  34. Only over for you and the rest of the Kraft planted socialist media. Once a cheater always a cheater. Off the field and on the field in Marcias case

  35. When the Pats beat the Browns next week we are going to have to hear how great Brady is and how they are the best team in football (not) the Bronco’s are.

  36. Deflategate will live on forever. It doesn’t die because it “timed out”.

Do your job, next man up, no excuses.

    Go Bills.
    Love,
    Walt Patulski, Toronto Canada

  37. What’s totally “rediculous” is that goodell handed the league a golden opportunity, but the Pats came out of it exactly where they will finish, in first and competing for home field throughout. Sorry to the rest of the NFL

  38. 3-1, first place in the AFC East. Brady saves 4 games of wear and tear. And the Pats could probably now trade Garrapolo for a 1st round pick and get the pick back they lost in the witch hunt. Brady’s suspension just could not have worked out any better for the Pats. Thanks Roger!!

  39. Word on the street is that Jastremski and McNally will be releasing a movie about this

I happen to think their silence is intriguing.

It’s silly to think that the likes of TMZ hasn’t already offered them
a massive payday to spill the beans, one that might set them up for life much better than their jobs would.

    And yet… silence.

Go figure. Maybe there aren’t any beans to spill huh?

There’s only 15 years of tape now on Belichek and Brady’s “system”. So why doesn’t every team just copy it? Then we can have a whole league of 12-4 teams 😉

And then go onto win the SB, setting in game records against an all time great defense. Yeah….at least he didn’t do that

  42. Framegate isn’t over. The referees have their orders. Just like they did after Cameragate.

  43. The #nextgate is right around the corner. NE cheats. you know it, I know it and so does the NFL Playing within the rules is not their style. To this day visiting teams have to have their locker room scrubbed for illegal technology. HA, the Patriot way!

  44. It’s amazing to me that we had to go through all of this because of confusion about the relationship between temperature and air pressure. Kind of embarrassing for the league and also the morally bankrupt owners, who seized on this as an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage against the Patriots, something their teams were too incompetent to achieve via normal football tactics. Talk about cheating! (And this is coming from a Bengals fan.)

In any case, it’s over now and Goodell and the NFL can go back to worrying about important stuff like Color Rush Thursdays, London, Lady Gaga, Kroenke world, fining players for unsanctioned post-game hats, etc., etc.

  45. Jastremski: Tom is acting crazy about balls… Ready to vomit.
Recipient: K … He saying there[they’re] not good enough??
    Jastremski: Tell later.

The next morning, Jastremski checked the balls and determined that Brady’s complaints had been justified.

He texted his fiancee (“Panda”) around 8:05 a.m.:
Ugh. Tom was right… I just measured some of the balls. They supposed to be 13 lbs [psi]. They were like 16 [psi]. Felt like bricks.

Jastremski also texted Jim McNally, the part-time Patriot employee responsible for the officials’ room and subsequently accused of deflating balls in a washroom prior to the AFC Championship game, that the referees had over-inflated some of the balls to nearly 16 psi, adding the additional information that the referees had apparently pumped additional air into the footballs, but not deflated them with the gauge to regulation pressure:

Jastremski: I checked some of the balls this morn… The refs f***ked us…a few of then were at almost 16… They didnt recheck then after they put air in them

Such “rechecking” is required because, practically, footballs are inflated by pump above the target pressure and air is then released by gauge needle to get to the desired pressure. The procedure was described for the AFC Championship pregame in the Wells Report as follows:

  46. Tom Brady is coming back and he’s coming back ANGRY – which can only mean one thing.

He’s going to throw Tommy Tantrums even after positive plays just to let the officials know he means business. As a whiner, it’s undisputed: Tom Brady is the GOAT.

  47. Sure, it’s over.
    For now.
Until we get another cheating scandal from Bill-A-Cheat and Kraft and company!

  48. The NFL did nothing wrong. Brady cheated, got caught, served his suspension. It is over until his HOF ballot comes up. Spygate and Deflategate should cost him first ballot. That is totally fair.

  49. What? Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

  50. Hall of Fame no – Hall of Shame yes! Deflategate – a stain that will follow you all of your days. It is what will define your career. It would be better if you never picked up a football!

    ……..

Yea, you’re right, the NFL did nothing wrong at all, except lie in open court, leak incorrect information to the media and refusing to correct it, paid a shady science firm to confirm their predetermined conclusions, set up an investigation that was riddled with conflicts of interest and zero hard proof, the ridiculous repeated lie of Wells’ “independence”, denied any dissenting scientific opinions (of which there were many), and numerous other ethical issues, and all this on top of their long track record of bungled investigations (bountygate, bullygate, concussions, Rice etc.). The NFL/Goodell are not credible when it comes to investigations. Their track record speaks for itself.

    …..

Sounds like you’ve never seen Odell Beckham play. Brady only gets really angry at himself and when his receivers screw up a route. He does complain to refs occasionally, but no more than any other star QB in the NFL. There is zero evidence he does it anymore than the others.
