49ers announce NaVorro Bowman out for season

The season has come to an end for 49ers linebacker Navorro Bowman.

The 49ers announced today that Bowman suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.

That’s what it looked like at the time, as Bowman went to the ground without being contacted and immediately grabbed the back of his ankle. Tests today confirmed the worst.

Bowman has had to work his way back from a serious injury before: In the NFC Championship Game after the 2014 season, Bowman suffered a gruesome knee injury.

Now the 49ers will hope that the 28-year-old Bowman can recover again and come back in 2017.

Just another non-contact injury putting a guy out for the year. I’m assuming PEDs had zero to do with it?

Heart and soul of the team…the last elite guy standing…I hope you come back strong Bo

Bowman one of the very very few likable high profile characters from this abominable franchise. Hard to have any sympathy for the Santa Clara Social Justice Warriors. I hope this disgusting team loses every game they play.

who’s got is better than us? everyone except Cleveland

  5. thermalito says: Oct 3, 2016 5:02 PM

Cleveland is better than Santa Clara. How anybody even roots for the York Niners anymore is puzzling.

  6. fumblenuts says: Oct 3, 2016 5:03 PM

    This team is DOOMED!

  7. ripleyray says: Oct 3, 2016 5:05 PM

Seahawks fan here. Bowman is the toughest guy I’ve ever seen play. Seeing him still hanging on to the ball with his knee torn to pieces in the Championship game is a vision and inspiration to me still to this day. Sad news here regarding a great player.

I’m a Seattle fan, but I love watching Bow play ball. Get well soon!

I don’t know if the new training rules have anything to do with it, but there seems to be more season ending injuries than ever before.

i guess the santa clara fans have to their quest for 1 on hold for another year

  11. taintedsaints2009 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:18 PM

Bowman is one of my favorite players. This sucks.

  12. thermalito says: Oct 3, 2016 5:33 PM

No longer a Niner fan after the disgraceful anthem protests but I still like Bowman. Tough break. Too bad he has to play for a gutter organization like the Santa Clara York Niners

Achilles injuries used to be so very rare. Now, at least a dozen a year. My money is not on PED usage, but overbuilt muscles that are too powerful for the attached tendons.

Bowman is the one 49er who didn’t deserve this type of injury.

Too much bad luck for such a great player.

Bowman IS the 9ers defense. All the best. I am sure some disgruntled Cardinal fans are smiling over this.

  16. blynch67 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:56 PM

I think we all knew this was going to be the diagnosis.

    Get well soon, Navorro.

damn hate to see this happen to Bowman, the guy is a savage out there. tough loss for the 9ers.

  19. jrossizzle says: Oct 3, 2016 6:08 PM

Another Niner takes a knee I guess

  20. dukeearl says: Oct 3, 2016 6:20 PM

One more Seahawk fan wishing him the best.

  21. hitit49 says: Oct 3, 2016 6:39 PM

It can only get worse. Baalke has zero inside line backers, nose tackles and pass rush for the 3-4 defense, no quarterback, one injury away from not having a running back or receiver. But he does have $40 mil in cap space

  22. ilovefoolsball says: Oct 3, 2016 6:45 PM

Hopefully the 49ers will do the respectable thing and cut him so that he can join a winning team.

  23. timswog says: Oct 3, 2016 6:47 PM

who’s got it better than us? is jim harbaugh still saying that at Michigan I wonder.

  24. timswog says: Oct 3, 2016 6:48 PM

this injury won’t matter. 49ers were going to be a 1-15 team with bowman, they’ll be 1-15 without him. sadly though, it’s the end of a fine career for bowman.

  25. hawkstradamus says: Oct 3, 2016 6:49 PM

He had a couple good years, glad he got paid. If he just rides the ir this year and next year, that will be five years of top level pay after his career effectively ended in the 2013 conference championship game. Probably more of a coincidence than a scam, but a hustle either way.

  26. timswog says: Oct 3, 2016 6:50 PM

still though, it was a good game yesterday between the santa clara 49ers and the irving cowboys.

  27. finchy74 says: Oct 3, 2016 6:56 PM

Sucks to hear this. Great player, better human being by all accounts. Get better soon, NaVorro.

So when the player is a selfless tough team player like Bowman, you like the player. But when the player is a selfish ignorant prick like Kaepernick, you hate the team?

Players should just shut their mouths and play ball.

Nice try getting all cutesy with the little Santa Clara thingy.

Here’s a fun fact: The Cowboys don’t play in Irving.

You come across as a fool when you try to talk trash but don’t know what to say.

Well, kindly tell us what 49ers players deserved this type of injury.

  31. coltsreign says: Oct 3, 2016 9:27 PM

The game he got hurt in was the 2013 NFC Championship game, San Francisco vs Seattle. More importantly man that bites. Hopefully he gets back to full health next year and does well.
