Jerry Jones: Only God knows how many meetings Dez has missed

A report that Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant has missed 20-40 meetings during his tenure with the Cowboys was denied by Bryant himself, who insists that a meeting he missed last week was “the only one I missed.”

So what’s the truth? Reporters asked Cowboys owner Jerry Jones if the reports about Bryant’s missed meetings were incorrect, and Jones’s answer didn’t exactly clear things up.

“On the face of them, yes, I would say they are incorrect, because only God knows how many of his meetings one way or another he has missed,” Jones said.

It’s hard to know what to make of that answer from Jones, but if the Cowboys don’t even know how many meetings Bryant has missed, that doesn’t exactly speak well for the organization. Presumably, a team would want to know whether one of its best, most important and highest-paid players was showing up to work or not. Maybe that’s not the case in Dallas.

Or maybe Jones just doesn’t want to answer, in which case he probably would have been better off not answering at all than going with the “only God knows” response.

  1. OMG, the stupidity starts right at the top of that organization! Run a tight ship do ya Jerrah? Hahahahahah, way to look completely clueless!!

  2. I feel like missed meetings by an employee is the responsibility of the employer to track. Shouldnt Garrett be keeping count? I mean you wont like him call plays or but in omn personnel, so he has to do something besides throw the challenge flag and call timeouts at bad times, right?

  3. Lol so i guess everyone that goes to those meetings doesnt know if Dez was there cause only god knows. I can see why Jerry Jones has them contending every year LOL.

  4. Coming from a Cowboy fan, it’s time to trade Dez. He will never have more value and his continued presence on the team will only get in the heads of the two rookies who look like the future. He would make a void on offense, but what you could get in return would help both sides of the team.

  5. You would think that your boss would know but I guess in Dallas it doesn’t work like that. No accountability. Jerrah ….” he’s a great team leader.”

  6. Um, no, more than just god knows unless Dez is having private meetings alone with himself in an empty room then sure maybe only god knows. Wow!! Wow!!

  7. Looks like the cowboys are about ready to go from diva town to serious football team. Trade Dez and Romo and start building a winning culture with the young guys.

  8. All Jerrah Jones cares about is assembling a bunch of good players, whether they are bad guys or not and whether that collection of talent can even coalesce into a TEAM is irrelevant to him. I have the same feeling about my fantasy team, and it kinda endears him to me that Jerrah treats the Cowboys like the biggest fantasy football team on the planet. The results over the last 20 years speak for themselves.

  9. Considering that we’re stupid enough to elect a thin skinned reality star/tax evader to run our country, maybe Dallas really IS America’s Team……

  10. I highly doubt that Bill Belichick keeps track of how many meetings Dez Bryant has missed.

    Nice try Jerry. Nice try.

Top athletes get special treatment from grade school to the pro’s.

    Is that so shocking ?
————————————————————–Ask Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Darrel Revis, Adalius Thomas, Gary Guyton, Brandon Spikes, Malcom Butler and Jonas Gray about the special treatment Belichick gave them for being late, never mind not showing up.

  12. TMZ is reporting that God said he doesn’t have any clue how many meetings Dez has missed.

He’s got more important things to worry about.

  13. this is the type of diva behavior that fractures a locker room ..special treatment = clubhouse cancer ..they’ll never win anything with this clown on the roster

  14. Keep tabs on Dez Bryant? Heavens no! I’m much too busy watching my second Son Tim Tebow hit homers!

    — God

  15. A lot of talk about a WR, who at the end of the day, hasn’t ever accomplished anything at this level.

He’s NEVER won a dang thing. Averages a whopping 68 yards a game.

Hardly impressive and would be an afterthought if it wasn’t for the inordinate amount of coverage the most mediocre team in sports gets because they have skeletor as an owner.

Yes, it is. It’s one thing to provide special treatment when you aren’t paying someone but when you are paying them based on their level of skill then you should expect performance! The special treatment really is the extra 50 mill they get. You pay someone like that they should do what you ask when you ask it.

A guy misses a meeting without a legit excuse, he doesn’t play. How hard is that?

Dallas are the most valuable franchise in the NFL because they care about revenue first. However, if you don’t at least win sometimes it will start to fall apart eventually.

  18. Once the pants were around his ankles in that mall incident, smart teams took his name right off the draft board.

    But not Dallas. They’re special.

  19. Dez is the man. Sure he’s a diva and he has some personality flaws but I think he’s one of the top five receivers in the league. And I can’t wait until he comes back this year and shows it to everybody.

  20. Unless Jerry is saying that Dez Bryant is God, that statement can’t be true. And if Dez Bryant is God, I’m not putting any money in the contribution basket anytime soon.

  21. I remember years ago when Jerry was actually a fascinating and intelligent guy to listen to… at this point is it the age, the alcohol, or both?

  22. Only shows up when he wants to? I bet his pep talks on the sidelines must ring hollow to the young guys.

  23. what god does know is how much jerry likes to hear himself talk…

and if he wasn’t so full of himself, he would have held his water and insisted on contract clauses that impose financial consequences for non-compliance.

If a player retires, he must repay a pro-rated portion of his signing bonus. Given that, and dez’s history of non cooperation, i’m pretty sure they could have insisted that the big upfront money dez wanted be contingent on full execution of his responsibilities to the team.

but the owner is the huckster is the doctor is the g.m is the de facto coach…

    Clueless:

Three Superbowl Rings, Self made Multi Billionaire, Owner of the wealthiest sports franchise in the world.

    Not bad for being clueless….

  25. I can guarantee that my boss has no idea how many meetings I’ve posted… And I can tell you I don’t keep track of how many department meetings my team has missed… Some things aren’t a big deal in the corporate world.

  26. Isn’t it the GM’s job to know stuff like that? I taught over 1000 university students in China and I always knew exactly how many classes each one missed.

How is Dez different than T.O.?

Three Super Bowl Rings with a team built by Jimmy Johnson. 20 years of Jerry has led to zero SB appearances. None, zip. Not a whiff. Ya sure, the guy is rolling in dough but when it comes to football common sense he is the epitome of clueless. We were talking football and his ridiculous statement. If I’m a Dallas fan I’m fuming at the lack of discipline that’s obviously limiting the Cowboys chances for real success on the football field.

  28. Was only a matter of time before jerry referred to himself as god in public. He has been doing it in private for years.

Jerry Rice averaged 75 yards per game….a 7 yard difference….so what’s your point? At a 68 yard per game pace, Dez would finish with 20,600 yards over the same number of games as Rice…which would put him in second place on the all time list.
