Who’s the team to beat in the NFC?

GREEN BAY, WI - SEPTEMBER 25: Fans hold an "Aaron Rodgers for President" sign during a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions

More than 40 percent of you think the Broncos are the team to beat in the AFC. So who’s the team to beat in the NFC?

Glad you asked, because that’s the question we’re asking on Tuesday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio and NBCSN.

So vote early, vote often, and if you ultimately think there isn’t a single worthy candidate, vote for no one — or vote for the one most likely to beat the candidate that scares the bejeepers out of you.

We’re still talking about football, right?

Anyway, feel free to battle it out in the comments, or to complain about who we added to the list and who we omitted.

And tune in at 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday for a three-hour tour of the NFL, or check out the two-hour simulcast on NBCSN, which starts at 7:00 a.m. ET.

Seahawks, Packers, Eagles & Falcons haven’t sold me yet. Giants should not even be in the discussion unless they win tonight. So Vikings it is.

  5. ariani1985 says: Oct 3, 2016 4:54 PM

Packers? thanks for the laugh! you do realize to win you need a defense and theirs is traditionally horrible yet again! unless you talk to fecal performance!

  6. johngaltwho says: Oct 3, 2016 4:55 PM

As a Packer fan, Id say the team to beat right now is the Vikings until proven otherwise. They have all the pieces in place. (I still like our chances though)

  7. sikoix says: Oct 3, 2016 4:57 PM

Vikings fan here… I think the Rams should be on the list after yesterday

  8. truninerfan49 says: Oct 3, 2016 4:58 PM

Why are the Giants on the list? They lost to a bad Skins team and beat the equally bad saints on a last second FG

  9. jimmyjohns01 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:04 PM

As a Packers fan, the Vikings are. Packers haven’t proven anything yet this season.

Vikings, best team in the NFC by a mile

  11. jayhawk777 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:07 PM

    Vikings #1
    Seahawks #2

We’ll all know more about the Falcons after their next 2 games at Denver and then at Seattle.

Always fear the Seahawks, always. In 2014, they started 3-3 and were 1 yd from winning back to back SB’s. In 2015, they started 2-4 and went to the divisionals.

    Vikings #1
    Seahawks #2

The Rams DO NOT deserve to be on any list. They have no pedigree and haven’t had a winning season for 15 years. Rams have shot their load and will finish 8-8.

  12. sikoix says: Oct 3, 2016 5:07 PM

While i think the Rams should be on the list (they already beat seattle), i don’t think they are the team to beat

  14. finchy74 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:08 PM

I suspect not many of us would have predicted at the beginning of the season that the Cardinals wouldn’t be on this list. Still surprised at how bad they’ve looked thus far.

And as much as it pains me, the Rams probably deserve to be on that list.

  15. sconnyslovethemsomecousins says: Oct 3, 2016 5:09 PM

Not a fan of either…but Giants on the list and Ram’s aren’t?
    You silly!

  16. hawksfannorth says: Oct 3, 2016 5:17 PM

I’d be really careful with the Rams. They’ve really won 2 games and got a ton of lucky calls in their only game against a real contender. Sure, they have a defense but it took a bunch of questionable calls to stop the Seahawks.

As for the, Cards, they’ve been exposed. Nothing behind their aging QB.

  17. lambeaudungbarn says: Oct 3, 2016 5:20 PM

As long as Green Bay has Rodgers they are a threat, period
Same with the Seahawks with Wilson.
I believe Minnesota has paid their dues this year.
On the other hand they beat..
    the Panthers???
    and Titans???
    Haven’t figured the Packers out.
But the Seahawks and Cards are always dangerous, beside there are still 12 games to go!
The AFC is unfortunately the best Conference this year.

  18. thetroofishere says: Oct 3, 2016 5:21 PM

  19. bleedingfacemask says: Oct 3, 2016 5:23 PM

In unrelated news, the weather report for Hades is predicting a snow storm.

  20. taintedsaints2009 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:23 PM

Vikings defense is right there with Denver’s. Their offense is actually better than their stats suggest, and they have not turned the ball over (I think…)

  21. rho1953 says: Oct 3, 2016 5:26 PM

Vikings? 0-4 in the big game. Nah, they will fold going down the stretch. Once a choker, always a choker.

  22. stellarperformance says: Oct 3, 2016 5:27 PM

The most balanced team in the NFC after three games is the Giants……ranked #6 NFC Defense/#2 NFC Offense.

    Eagles are #2/#9
    Seahawks #1/#10
    Falcons #15/#1
    Packers #8/#13
    Vikings#3/#16

The Viking have the worst offense in the NFC.

    Giants? No.

  24. jackedupboonie says: Oct 3, 2016 5:48 PM

Let’s see……out of all those teams…throw in the 8-8 Rams if you want…they need a 4 week trophy, but Seattle still has the same D they have had the last 4 years, and a mature Wilson…who just threw for 300+ and 3 TDs on 2 bad legs. Sound minds would go with the Seahawks.

  28. universalchurchoftruth says: Oct 3, 2016 6:08 PM

  29. jackedupboonie says: Oct 3, 2016 6:13 PM

Vikings are winning this poll only because they play tonight….and their fans are on here jacked up for a Monday nighter. Which I would be too….have a great game and please take the north!

  30. mnwilderness87 says: Oct 3, 2016 6:37 PM

If the Vikings can beat both the Giants and the Texans, it will be hard to argue that they are not the team to beat in the NFC. AND if they can accomplish that and also go to philly and win there going to 6-0… There’s no longer a debate. BUT, that’s a tall order to accomplish in the nfl. Time will tell.

  31. lambeaudungbarn says: Oct 3, 2016 6:42 PM

As a Vikings fan, I am worried about the giants tonight, NY have everything going for them right now. Everybody is voting for Minnesota, and they only play well as the Underdog (and not the Sweet Polly Pure Bread kind).
Minnesota doesn’t win on Monday Night Football.
Giants have revenge over last years CLOBBERING on their minds.
And as poorly as Minnesotas Offensive line is playing and lack of offense, NY stands out as the better team.

An obvious Hawks homer and a bad one at that. Questionable calls were the only reason they Rams beat Seattle?? Dude, the Rams have beaten them 3 straight times and 4 out of the last 5. There was one questionable offensive PI called on Seattle late in that game that I thought was bad but other then that it was an evenly called game. How about the game was won because the Hawks lame o -line couldn’t protect Russell. Are the Hawks good…sure they are but for god sakes man try and be a tad more gracious in defeat and not use the usual excuses you 12’s squeal every time you lose.

  33. brobokil says: Oct 3, 2016 6:47 PM

Im a Vikes fan and Im actually surprised so many people have them ranked so high. I mean our defense yeah but that offense still isnt anything special.

But hell if we can do what the Broncos did last year Ill take it!

  34. smarterthanyouoryours says: Oct 3, 2016 7:05 PM

Once the Vikings beat a decent defense, they can start crowing.

    Titans?
    Packers?
    Panthers?

Packers and Panthers looked like good wins, until they didn’t.

Seahawks are rounding into form. Defense still best in football and the offense is beginning to really gel.

    Look out for Graham.

Only a Cowboys fan would think they belong on the list.
Vikings are catching the Giants without their 1 & 2 RB’s and their secondary is in tatters. MN should be able to pad their resume tonight and grab what could be an important tie breaker down the road.

  36. skol4life says: Oct 3, 2016 7:32 PM

Us Viking fans don’t need to hear whiny excuses about injuries because ours are well documented. Any game the Vikings do lose this year there will be no excuses as long as Zimmer is our coach. Bradford and our offense have marching orders not to turn the ball over so that’s why you don’t big numbers yet. The offense will open up when Bradford is ready and it might start happening tonight.

  37. philcodean says: Oct 3, 2016 7:33 PM

This Pack fan had to pull the lever for the Vikings (painful but honest). They have the best defense in the NFC and just enough offense to make them contenders. If GB can get their act together in pass defense, we have a decent shot at playing in the NFC championship.

  38. bigfish761 says: Oct 3, 2016 7:42 PM

Well, to be REALLY honest, the Vikings have the third ranked defense in the NFC. And if “just enough” offense is the worst in the NFC, then you’re right.

  40. beerbratscheese says: Oct 3, 2016 8:18 PM

More often that not, the team to beat this early in the season is not the team to beat at the end of the season. I voted Packers (obviously), but I feel it could be either Packers, the Seahawks or, gulp, the Vikings at the end of the year, simply due to coaching and/or key personnel on the roster.

The Cowboys are #2 in total offense, with a backup QB. They’re #18 on defense, with half the starters suspended. Atlanta is second from the bottom.

Only someone biased against them would think they do not belong on that list.

  42. danielwonderful2015 says: Oct 3, 2016 9:01 PM

Falcons beat the Saints (their arch rival) in the Superdome on Monday night football then, come back in a short week and trounce the defending conference champion, along the way setting a new NFL record as the only team with a quarterback with over five hundred yards in a game and a receiver with over three hundred.

    Be afraid, be very afraid.

  43. thecatalinawinemixer says: Oct 3, 2016 9:49 PM

The Vikings may be leading this poll, but unfortunately the name of the game is defense AND at least some sort of offensive threat. Bradford is not it. He miiiiight make it 16 games this year. Regardless, I have to put at least the Seahawks ahead of the Vikings because they’ve proven they can win WHEN IT COUNTS. Regular season champs means nothing. Especially when you can’t win a home playoff game with a chip shot fg. So until they prove it in January, Seattle is better than Minnesota.

That being said, I’ll take the field in this poll for the NFC representative.

  44. osiris33 (bandwagon since 1976) says: Oct 3, 2016 10:28 PM

Sorry Vikings fans but Seattle will steamroll the team I’m watching tonight. You’ve only got one guy who could start for the Seahawks and Barr would have to change positions to SAM to get snaps.

    ________

Yes, questionable calls were the reason that the Rams beat the Seahawks this year. I’m a Seahawks homer, but it doesn’t mean I can’t look at things objectively. There was more than 1 questionable call in that game… First was the phantom facemask called on Chancellor when the Seahawks got a stop on 3rd down that would have forced a punt. Instead it extended the drive and put the Rams into field goal range for their 1st field goal. Then the bogus offensive PI on Lockett that instead of putting the Seahawks in scoring position, forced a punt. 2 bogus offensive PI’s on Kearse. One that took away a first down and forced a punt. Then the phantom facemask call on Marsh when he sacked Keenum at the Rams 25 with about 3 minutes to go that would have forced a punt. Instead, the Rams get the 15 yard penalty putting the ball at midfield and giving the Rams another set of downs. When the Seahawks forced another stop, they got the ball back on their 12 yard line with under 2 minutes to go. You can’t watch a game like that and say that the refs didn’t play a role in the outcome with their multiple horrendously botched calls. The Rams always play the Seahawks tough, but it’s almost impossible to win against any team when you have to overcome 4 or 5 game changing bad calls by the refs. Congrats on the win, but it’s nothing worth beating your chest over and even though Rams homers won’t publicly admit it, they all know they got away with one with that game.

The Eagles are not the best team in the NFC. Their lack of WR’s and CB’s is going to eventually catch up to them, saying that, their the team with the brightest long term future. Their needs are clear. Thanks to the Bradford trade, cap room isn’t going to be a terrible issue, neither is their a shortage of draft picks any more. Next year they’ll be in the debate for real…and for a bunch of years after that.
