The Atlanta Falcons released linebacker O’Brien Schofield on Tuesday to free up a roster spot for the addition of linebacker A.J. Hawk.

Schofield appeared in 16 games for the Falcons last season and made 10 starts for the team. However, he wasn’t re-signed by Atlanta until two weeks into this season. Schofield played just 14 defensive snaps and 34 special teams snaps over the last two games for the Falcons before being released on Tuesday.

However, the Falcons had a more pressing need for a replacement for Sean Weatherspoon, who was lost for the season to a torn Achilles tendon.
