Who’s the MVP through four weeks?

Getty Images

Four weeks of the NFL season are in the books, so it’s not too early to begin to consider who may be the NFL’s MVP.

Especially since one of the short-list MVP candidates will be joining PFT Live on Wednesday.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who threw for 503 yards on Sunday against the Panthers, will join us at 7:00 a.m. ET, right out of the gates at the top of the NBCSN simulcast of the show. At 7:35 a.m. ET, we’ll have Rams receiver Brian Quick.

At 8:00 a.m. ET, Browns receiver Terrelle Pryor visits, followed by long-time NFL defensive lineman Chris Canty at 8:35 a.m. ET.

So set your DVR now or otherwise get yourself in front of a TV or by a radio for the three-hour program. Alternatively, check out the PFT Live podcast, which cranked up nearly 570,000 downloads in September.

Until then, vote early and often as to your choice for MVP. And then complain in the comments about the players omitted and the players from the list of finalists.

UPDATE 11:43 p.m. ET: I forgot to include Russell Wilson. So the other five got a head start. Seahawks fans, you’re three hours behind. So make up the difference.

Why is the next superstar not on the list? DEREK CARR!!!

    Carson Wentz

Matt will come back down to earth. Too bad JJ got hurt. This really could have been his year.

  4. jaymeister says: Oct 4, 2016 9:38 PM

Wait, no Jameis Winston? After week 1, so many people were gushing on him you would have thought he was the GOAT.

  5. todoubled says: Oct 4, 2016 9:40 PM

The two at the top play each other this weekend. My vote is for Vonster so let’s see how many sacks Von & Co. can get or if Matt Ryan throws for more than 200 yards.

  6. militantgod says: Oct 4, 2016 9:46 PM

Julio Jones outside of this week was pretty average this season. It just shows you how you guys haven’t got a clue. It’s similar to when you had Bortles as one of your 10 possible MVP candidates over Carr.

  7. carloswlassiter says: Oct 4, 2016 9:53 PM

Zimmer, Elway and Ryan in that order.

  8. We'reFineThere says: Oct 4, 2016 9:54 PM

I know you made a joke about complaining about omissions but I’m going to have assume Carson Wentz was an actual oversight.

  9. calibear831 says: Oct 4, 2016 10:01 PM

    Derek Carr

  15. magicmtndan says: Oct 4, 2016 10:13 PM

If the Foulcans played any decent teams they’d be seen for what they are – a mediocre team.

    Give them time, they’ll implode.

Matt Ryan is a better than average QB but not more than that.

  16. cuzzinjoey says: Oct 4, 2016 10:19 PM

    What about Derek Carr?

Raiders are 3-1 for first time since 2002 and he has this offense on FIRE.

Let’s get the kid in the conversation at least.

    Go Raiders

  18. tdshouldbeinthehall says: Oct 4, 2016 10:23 PM

Which one of those teams is undefeated? That’s your answer.

  19. bartpkelly says: Oct 4, 2016 10:29 PM

Yes- yes it is too early. Just like pre favorites for Heisman. Week 4 is too early to discuss MVP.

  20. smartanis says: Oct 4, 2016 10:33 PM

I don’t see Blaine Gabbert up there.

  21. nwsuccess says: Oct 4, 2016 10:36 PM

    None of the above

  22. asparatame says: Oct 4, 2016 10:38 PM

I’d complain that Roethlisberger is ON the list if only because of that stinker he put up against PHI.

  23. arvinkp says: Oct 4, 2016 10:42 PM

    Russell Wilson

  24. calrip2131 says: Oct 4, 2016 10:47 PM

    Tom Brady.

  25. 8oneanddones says: Oct 4, 2016 10:50 PM

    The undefeated Sam Bradford.

  26. blynch67 says: Oct 4, 2016 10:57 PM

    Sam 4-0 Bradford.

I can’t believe I just said that, lol.

    Carson 3-0 Wentz
    Dax 3-1 Prescott

  31. wentzwagon says: Oct 4, 2016 11:04 PM

The fact that Carson Wentz is not listed as an option is an absolute travesty. Wentz for MVP!!!!!

  32. lambeaudungbarn says: Oct 4, 2016 11:06 PM

Sam Bradford may not have the yardage but what he has done has been just short of a Miracle, especially with the short prep time, being without Peterson and his starting Left Tackle!

  33. stratomaticfan says: Oct 4, 2016 11:11 PM

    No love for Derrick Carr?

  34. stratomaticfan says: Oct 4, 2016 11:11 PM

    Derek (stupid auto correct)

  35. likuidsmoke says: Oct 4, 2016 11:15 PM

Brady will win MVP, with only 12 games.

  36. snowskier24 says: Oct 4, 2016 11:17 PM

#4 CARR is not in the conversation?

  37. Bonerz'NPudz says: Oct 4, 2016 11:18 PM

    Tom Brady

  38. twinfan24 says: Oct 4, 2016 11:24 PM

Zimmer. I know, he’s a coach and not a player, and that wasn’t the question. But, he is doing a heck of a job and there isn’t necessarily only one standout player on the Vikings defense to point out.

  39. shaggytoodle says: Oct 4, 2016 11:35 PM

There has been FOUR games, and that’s only for some teams, PLEASE do not start this.

If you absolutely need to start MVP talk, you need to put Carson Wentz, he has been equally effective as some of those players, or does he not “qualify” since its only week 4 and he’s played 3 games…

  40. FlashPatterson says: Oct 4, 2016 11:40 PM

500 yards passing is great, but Julio had 300 of them. That’s way more impressive. Julio has my vote.

  41. komzybabyyy says: Oct 4, 2016 11:44 PM

Derek Carr? (QB for the Oakland Raiders)

  42. wafflestomp says: Oct 4, 2016 11:56 PM

Looking forward to all of the whiny comments from the Barney fans, because none of their players were included on the list.
And then they’ll finish off each of their posts with some lame and bitter remark about the Packers.
The Barney fans are as predictable as they come.

  43. 49erdynasty says: Oct 5, 2016 12:07 AM

As of right now, there are all of 42 seahawk fans in the world. That’s pretty consistent with the 2010 census.

  44. upnorthvikesfan says: Oct 5, 2016 12:07 AM

Sam Bradford joined the Vikings on short notice, has won all three of his starts and hasn’t turned the ball over one time! Why isn’t he in this poll??

  45. r502 says: Oct 5, 2016 12:35 AM

Carr looks to be a strong write in candidate

  46. thethingaboutchangeis says: Oct 5, 2016 12:53 AM

Aaron Donald. It’s not even close.

  47. pittsburghdamned says: Oct 5, 2016 1:04 AM

I really gotta go with Carson Palmer on this…

  48. theseekeroffun says: Oct 5, 2016 2:00 AM

Matt Ryan has never done anything, period. I’ll take Wentz, Prescott or even Bradford over him any day.

  49. mclennon99 says: Oct 5, 2016 3:38 AM

    Are you kidding me?

Remember…you can’t spell RYAN FITZPATRICK without INT (I just came up with that! That’s pretty good!)

  50. burfictisabeast says: Oct 5, 2016 5:21 AM

I’ll take AJ Green over JJ and AB. Really you are splitting hairs between the three except AB will never out jump anyone for that endzone fade route.

  51. bigdawgdaddy says: Oct 5, 2016 6:08 AM

Everson “Sack Daddy” Griffen…..destroying offensive game plans North, South, East & West.

  52. therealtrenches says: Oct 5, 2016 8:09 AM

    No Carson Wentz?

  53. therealtrenches says: Oct 5, 2016 8:33 AM

Jim Schwartz should be on there, too.

  54. Keto & Kettles says: Oct 5, 2016 8:43 AM

To not at least have Derek Carr and Carson Wentz on the list is wrong. They are winning games and putting their teams on their shoulders. Carr has won on the road 3 times and two of them have been gut check come from behind performances.

That being said, Matt Ryan is playing lights out and Von Miller is a beast. I would want to see the other two on the list so I could vote Carr with my heard, but my brain says Von or Matt Ryan.

  55. jag1959 says: Oct 5, 2016 10:14 AM

Philly GM Howie Roseman deserves a spot on that list.
As a Giants guy it pained me to say that. I might even have thrown up in my mouth a little

  56. minson15 says: Oct 5, 2016 10:51 AM

The Pats fans that say Tom Brady…doesn’t really hold much weight. If your team was 0-4 then possibly would show exactly how valuable he really is. The fact that your team is 3-1 and the only loss you guys have is because you played a third string QB (who really shouldn’t have been in the league) with bumb thumb. Brady is replaceable in the regular season (Post Season he is a different story). Which is what this award is the Most Valuable Player in the regular season.

  57. pacificdan says: Oct 5, 2016 12:12 PM

Wentz and Carr should be on that list.

    -Cowboys fan

  58. jmethane says: Oct 5, 2016 3:25 PM

I know this is funny but it’s too early for this

  59. skawh says: Oct 5, 2016 6:52 PM

Wilson hands down, because Wilson played through 2 injuries and remain in the game. Ryan had Julio to throw to for how many years now, and what has Ryan done with it? He’s a slacker if you ask me for how can you have a receiver that good and not be on the same page with him?
