Jason Verrett has partially torn ACL, will miss the rest of the season

Chargers Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett has a partially torn ACL, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said Wednesday.

Verrett told reporters that he’ll have surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Verrett finished last week’s game vs. the Saints, and McCoy said based on the game tape no one would have guessed that Verrett was injured.

The loss of Verrett is a big blow to a struggling team as he often covers the opponent’s No. 1 wide receiver. The 1-3 Chargers are at Oakland this week.

Verrett has one interception this season. He had three last season, when he went to his first Pro Bowl.

  1. I truly feel sorry for Bolts fans.

Every single year it’s the same story……….Injuries, Injuries, Injuries & it’s always to their best players.

  2. Injuries are part of the game, but the last few years have been like nothing I have ever seen with a team. 26-offensive line combinations last year in 16-games.

    This year:
    Stevie Johnson-ACL
    Brandon Oliver – Achilles
    Jeff Cumberland – Achilles
    Keenan Allen – ACL
    Manti Teo – Achilles
    Danny Woodhead – ACL
    Jason Verrett – ACL

Both offensive tackles are out, Gates is out, and Joey Bosa has practiced once.

  3. The Chargers NEVER had this injury issue before Mike McCoy became HC. It is the way that McCoy practices, and the conditioning coaches that are getting these players hurt at an alarming rate. Just take a look at how many players have gone down under Mike McCoys coaching reign.

  4. You have to like the Raiders chances this week after this news. Unfortunate for the Chargers, their best players keep dropping like flies to the injury bug.

The Raiders fans would love to see a home victory after being 3-0 on the road and losing their only home game thus far.

  5. with the second pick (thank you browns) in the 2017 NFL draft the San Diego Chargers select…….

    +++++++++++++

Someone they will try to screw on their contract.
I feel bad for Chargers fans and the players, no one outside of the Spanos family deserves this.

  7. As much as I want McCoy gone, remember this team played in an AFC Championship game not long ago with LaDainian Tomlinson out, Antonio Gates gimpy with a dislocated big toe, and Philip Rivers playing with torn ACL.

  8. Hard practices??? Quite the opposite. He runs a country club atmosphere here, with too many days off during training camp. They enter the regular season much too soft. San Diego needs a disciplinarian as a coach. Marty and Bobby Ross were both old school coaches and they got the most out of their talent. Mike McMilquetoast does not.

  9. Just awful news. The Chargers cannot seem to get a break from this injury curse. Now JoeToronto has every right to feel like his favorite team will win this weekend’s game.

    How truly sad.
