The Oakland Raiders signed rookie tight end Ryan O’Malley off their practice squad to their active roster to replace Lee Smith, who the team placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Smith was injured in last Sunday’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Smith’s right ankle was caught in the turf and was wrenched sideways as he was tackled by Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith in the second quarter of Oakland’s 28-27 win. The injury was officially dubbed a lower leg injury.

O’Malley caught two passes for 11 yards for the Raiders in the preseason before being waived during final cuts. He was later signed to the team’s practice squad. He signed with Oakland as an undrafted free agent out of Penn back in May.
