Evan Mathis lands on injured reserve

The Cardinals lost both starting guards to ankle injuries during Thursday night’s win over the 49ers. One of them apparently was injured more seriously than the other.

The team has placed Evan Mathis on injured reserve. Mike Iupati, also injured in the game, remains on the active roster.

The Cardinals filled the roster spot by signing Ulrick John from Miami’s practice squad. John was a seventh-round pick of the Colts in 2014.

Mathis, 34, spent 2015 with the Broncos after stints with the Panthers, Dolphins, Bengals, and Eagles, He started four of the five games in 2016 with Arizona.

He can return to the active roster after eight weeks.
