Lions promote Longa, activate Bryant

CLEVELAND, OH - DECEMBER 13: Quarterback Blaine Gabbert #2 of the San Francisco 49ers is sacked by outside linebacker Armonty Bryant #95 and free safety K'Waun Williams #36 of the Cleveland Browns during the second half at FirstEnergy Stadium on December 13, 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Lions activated defensive end Armonty Bryant and promoted linebacker Steve Longa on Saturday.

Wide receiver Aaron Dobson and offensive lineman Brian Mihalik were released.

Bryant had served a four-game suspension to start the year and was released by the Browns last week when the suspension expired. He signed with the Lions but was still on a roster exemption before being activated.

Longa is an undrafted rookie who broke into the NFL with the Seahawks and signed with the Lions practice squad last month. The Lions are without two of their best defenders, linebacker DeAndre Levy and defensive end Ziggy Ansah, for Sunday’s game vs. the Eagles, so Bryant and Longa will likely be in uniform for that game.

Sounds like this will be the last year for Caldwell. Although it’s mostly the fault of his GMs for not providing him with the tools he needed. Same thing with Schwartz.

Thank goodness LA has a football team.

Caldwell did it all on his own, don’t give him any outs.

If the GM has any guts, he’ll fire Caldwell after todays lose. Promote Jim Bob to interm head coach and find a real head coach for next year. As goodluckking said, “Caldwell did this all on his own, don’t give him any outs.” I agree. Even with a healthy team, Caldwell, aka “the lampshade” does nothing to prepare or make adjustments. He’s terrible.
