Brady and Bennett connect again; rout on in Cleveland

Martellus Bennett has two touchdown catches. Tom Brady has three touchdown passes in three series.

The Patriots are back. The Browns are still the Browns.

It’s 23-7 in the second quarter. The Browns are playing both Terrelle Pryor and Charlie Whitehurst at quarterback after rookie Cody Kessler was knocked out of the game on a first quarter sack and safety by Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

Brady is 13-of-15 for 185 yards, not yet 20 minutes into the game. Bennett’s touchdown catches have covered 7 and 5 yards, respectively.

  1. At this rate, grandpa Brady’s arm will fall off come playoff time. Too many lobs to Chris Hogan.

  2. Tom Brady is a really good quarterback, great quarterback, but look at how the Patriots did without him this season. Look at the season Matt Cassel had. Bill Belichick and the system is a HUGE part of the patriots success. I dont think you can anoint Tom as the GOAT when the team still wins without him. I know it’s only the regular and not the post season, but who would do better with a different team, Tom or Bill?

You mean the types of passes you have insisted over and over again he can’t make? Your Jests are hanging tough against the Steelers maybe you should be enjoying that instead of trolling

    I would’ve cut Brady. What a washed-up old geezer.æ

Lolz I love comments like this that show the typical Pats hater has barely enough football knowledge to cover the head of a pin.

Yeah, Brady looks really washed up. He’s sure looks finished.

Pats haven’t won more than one SBowl since ‘deflategate’. I rest my case.

erm… They won one in the very next game after the beginning of framegate.

Can I rest my case over yours?

I don’t understand. I thought he could only dink and dunk. Nothing past 5 yards?

  7. Haters had all week to get their excuses ready, and this is all we get. What do we even pay them for?

  8. Dude, it’s the Browns. The last time Brady played a football game against a real team he lost to Peyton Manning and the Broncos.

Browns are on their 4th QB. It doesn’t really matter. Wait till the Pats play a real team.

    —-

I do agree with this one, for the most part. The Browns Offense just isn’t good enough to give their D a chance. I think if their D wasn’t on the field so much, they’d actually be pretty decent. They have no time to rest, though, and can’t hold back the flood every game.

  10. when I was a about 10 and watching sports and things were not going well I would whine to my Gramma “the other team is cheating….its not fair!”
She would say “yes its not fair”.

Of course I was 10 years old.

Always with the excuses. Who has beat a “real team”?

  12. Gee, 3 qb’s injured after kicking to the curb an All Pro center and a quality right tackle.

Meanwhile the Falcons and many others are saying that All Pro center has been pivotal in their high flying offense return and that he was the best free agent pick up of anyone in free agency.

The smartest guys in the room strike again!

  13. “Brady only has 2 td passes. Blount has a rushing td”

    Yeah and ?

You do realize if Brady has 2 TDs a half, each half, for the rest of the season he’ll have 48 TDs and probably lead the league again ? No ?

That’s ok, we realize Pats haters have trouble with things like math and science.

Now its not realistic to expect that many TDs the rest of the year from Brady, but I don’t think he’ll have less than 30 even with missing 4 games.

Haters during the game: It’s the Browns

  15. Brady sucks, he’s a “system quarterback”?

Can’t throw deep, all he is is “dink and dunk”?

    “it’s the Browns”?

Sure looks like he’s throwing those regulation inflated footballs way down the field.

The “system” didn’t have Garappalo or Brisette throwing bombs.

The Browns have held tough defensively in their previous games.

Semi worried about Gostowski. He’s not kicking with his usual excellent results.

With the same team and a softer schedule Cassell lost 5 more games than Brady and did not make the playoffs, you are making the case for Brady not against him.

The Bill’s beat a third string QB who was playing injured, and the Pats D gave up 16 points. How many times will 16 points be enough now that Tom is back. I guess Bill’s fans have to cheer what they can.

Matt Cassel, average (below average maybe) quarterback, they went 11-5, even though they missed the playoffs, they did well with a below average qb. Only 3 teams in the AFC had a better record that year.

Softer schedule, no offense NYJ, BUF, and MIA fans. But the AFC EAST has been weak or semi weak for the past decade or 15 so years. There have been some solid defenses but in that division the best quarterbacks not named brady in the afc east was who? Bledsoe with the bills? Fitzpatrick? Mark Sanchez, Pennington? Maybe Favre’s one season with the jets?

My point is, the Pats have had an easier division that most. Hypothetically, Switch the Browns and Patriots for the last 15 years, and let the Pats play the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals twice a season. They probably lose one or two games more per season, maybe dont have homefield for a game or throughout the playoffs and things may change. By the way, I enjoy these football discussions, usually Boston fans know their sports.

Oh, and I didnt know Pats were 19-18 without Brady. Good counter argument.

  26. AFC east has been pretty mediocre, but the Pats also have faced a first place schedule for the nondivision games for most of the last 15yrs.

    ====================

In ’07 NE had the 3rd toughest strength of schedule that included 8 playoff opponents and won 16 games. In ’08 they had the 32nd, facing 4 playoff opponents.
Your hypothetical works in NE’s favor, in the Brady/Belichick era the Pats are .800 against the AFCN.
The AFCE is the winningest division in football over the past 10 years.
