Brady goes over 400, Patriots roll to victory

AP

Tom Brady is back. So is the explosive Patriots offense.

The Browns were no match Sunday, and future opponents are on notice.

The Patriots scored on the first three series of Brady’s season Sunday as he returned from a four-game Deflategate suspension. Brady threw three touchdown passes, all to tight end Martellus Bennett, and All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski also had his first big game of the season.

Sunday’s final was 33-13. It was pretty much decided in the first quarter when the Patriots went up 16-7 and Browns quarterback Cody Kessler was knocked out of the game with rib and chest injuries sustained on a hit by Dont’a Hightower. That play resulted in a sack and a safety.

Brady finished 28-of-40 for 406 yards and the three touchdowns. Chris Hogan caught four passes for 114 yards, Gronkowski caught five passes for 109 yards, and Bennett caught six for 67 yards.

Brady went over 400 passing yards in a game for the eighth time. It’s the second time he’s gone over 400 yards while throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Browns were down to Terrelle Pryor at quarterback by the end of the game. Backup Charlie Whitehurst limped off with a little under four minutes left.

The Patriots are 4-1 and host the Bengals next week. The Browns are 0-5 and are at the Titans next week.

  1. Yay….they beat the Browns. Let’s just go ahead and give them the Super Bowl after this impressive win against one of the worst teams in the history of professional football.

  2. I want the Pats to win the SB just so Brady can refuse to shake the Commissioner’s hand before yelling, “Get the hell out of my house!”

Even a non-Pats fan would want to see that if your team could not win it.

  3. one of those “not as close as the score looks” games, even though they won by 20. If they kept the foot on the gas they would have had 55-60 points. Great showing. Though I’m worried about Hogan & Bennett, both of whom were banged up.

  4. I think the trade for Martellus Bennet could be the trade of the year.

Teamed with Gronk and Edelman that offense is a monster. You can’t double cover all 3.

Then toss in Hogan, Amendola, White, and imagine if Deion Lewis can come back later this year ?

Hogan looks like the tall, fast, outside receiver they’ve needed the last couple years.

  5. Go ahead Patriot Hater entertain us 🙂 Tell us again Brady is a system QB 🙂 Tell us again that he needs deflated footballs to be good 🙂

We can’t wait for the laughs!

    🙂

Browns 31 Patriots 6 – Brady goes down hurt and onto IR!

  7. It is just the Browns, but Tom Brady did well out there. His connections to the tight ends helped open things up he used Hogan and Edelman quite a bit although I wished there was more of a run game. The defense did ok, but they still give up too many yards for my liking hopefully that gets fixed. Finally, I hope Stephen Gostkowski gets out of his current rut with long distance kicks. Nice win, but the real test is next week.

  8. Brady is just a dink and dunk, short yard passer. Guess those throws to Hogan were just a figment of our imagination. Another false narrative bites the dust.

  9. .
The 2-2 Bengals would be wise to win at Dallas today. I’m very pessimistic about their chances of beating the Patriots in Brady’s home return.
    .

  10. The only game I’ll watch this weekend. And in weeks to come, only Patriot games. A machine. What Goodell did to the Pats, Brady, and the league is unforgivable. He, Goodell himself, has ruined the competitive INTEGRITY of the NFL for 2016….and maybe for years to come.

  11. On the plus side. A rusty Brady was connecting well with all of his receivers. Can’t wait to see him when he’s had more time to gel with them through practice. On the negative side, it seems the refs are still ignoring the manhandling of Gronk by the defenders.

  12. Beating the Browns by only 20 points is shameful. Bellichick will have them run extra laps this week.

  13. Apparently the Italian HGHs are working. Hopefully they do a better job than the Brazilian HGHs of years past.

  14. Dink, dunk, dink, dunk. Wowww amazing throws huh? The sysTOM cheater beat the winless browns and media will dick ride him all week LOL. Well at least he ain’t cheat for all we know. (I hope)

    ——————————-
You do realize the schedule is set by an NFL system every year, right? Designed to create parity…look it up. Or let me help you:
Here’s how each team’s opponents are set:

Every team plays six games against the other three teams in its division, facing off twice per season — once at home and once on the road.

The NFL’s scheduling formula ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.

The NFL’s scheduling formula ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.

Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road. Which division a team plays is determined by a rotation system ensuring that the teams in one division will play the teams in every other division in its conference once every three years.

Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division in the other conference once per season — two games at home and two on the road. These matchups are also determined by a rotation, which ensures that all teams play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.

Every team plays its remaining two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and the other on the road. The matchups are determined by where the teams finished in their divisions in the previous season. For example, a team that finished the previous year in third place in its division will play the third-place teams from the two other divisions in its conference.

As for the soft AFC East schedule…well, that’s not the Patriots fault, nor the league.

    Educate yourself.

It’s especially funny coming from a fan of a team who once won a division with a 7-9 record.

    Awww, you still mad bro?
Meanwhile the Hawks have beaten 2 AFCE teams and the Niners and managed all of 3 whole points against the Rams.
NE was fortunate enough to draw the NFCW this year though so there is they do have that going for them

  45. By the time Brady is through in the NFL, the other owners will probably wish that they had shut down Goodell when they had the chance.

  46. Well.. The Falcons beat the Broncos. Good game. The Broncos defense didn’t get to gloat much.
Bills on the other hand is looking legit. Rex and Rob will have jobs for a while from the looks of it. They sure look energized.
Brady can dink and dunk. But he can also let it fly with the right receiver just like with Moss. Once he gets in synch with the new ones, he can really be a major headache for other teams more so than now. And he can run too even with his two left feet. That celebration of his after the run is adorkable.
Haters… We Pats fans are in a good place. Thank you for your amusing us. Glad you have time.

  47. 40 throws 406 yards – 10+ yards per attempt.

28 completions – 406 yards, aka 14.5 yards per completions, aka not bad for a dink and dunk kind of guy.

Haters – keep it up, because most of you – because of your years of practice – have graduated from annoying to funny.

  48. And here it is 8:52 and drool/factman/trailer has yet to make a comment on the article about his supposedly beloved Steelers win today after commenting on a few Pats articles. Would be amusing to know what team he or she really roots for.

    ++++++++++++

    You checked mean randomly, right?
If so no doubt in the interest of full disclosure the results will be posted on the NFL’s website just like last years. Oh…wait

  50. I think it is so funny that last week when the Bills beat the Pats it was because they were playing against a 3rd string QB. So I am guessing that the same holds true this week.. The Pats beat, probably the worse team in the league with a 3rd round pick at QB..

  52. Let’s get I’ve the whole Patriots get the weakest schedule every year garbage. Of course they get the weakest schedule. They don’t have to play against the Best coach in the league and the best quarterback in the league or the best team in the league. They are all three of those.
It’s not the Patriots fault the rest of the league can’t keep up with them. Also my assumption is most of you don’t know how the NFL schedule works.

Clearly you didn’t watch the game. Hogan and Gronk both had long completions.

    ………

Fun angle you have there, but its completely wrong.

Pats have drawn a first place schedule for 13 of the last 15 years.

  56. Patriots offense is looking pretty good, even before Brady’s return, but having Tom back makes it lethal. Yes, the Browns were just Brady’s pre-season warm-up game, thank you very much. As sharp as he was yesterday, they’ll get even better with a few more weeks of work together.

The Patriots’ biggest challenge will be on defense. The Browns were no contest, but in prior weeks the D let their opponents move the ball up field pretty easily, and there was none of the red zone ferocity we are used to seeing in the past. I bet Bill is onto this and will be working those guys hard in the coming weeks.
