The Chargers-Raiders game is starting to turn the shootout many thought it would be.
After Melvin Gordon turned a short pass into a touchdown early in the third quarter, the Raiders needed just five plays to answer. Then the Chargers came right back, needing just three plays of their own before Hunter Henry caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers.
Don’t blink. It’s 24-16, Chargers, with more than 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
Amari Cooper scored the first touchdown of the day for the Raiders on a 64-yard pass from Derek Carr. On the ensuing drive, the Chargers went 75 yards in three plays thanks to a 50-yard Rivers pass to Tyrell Williams.
Williams also scored the game’s first touchdown. The Raiders settled for three field goals in the first half -- and missed a fourth -- and may end up regretting those missed opportunities.
Gordon is the first NFL player to seven touchdowns this season.
