There wasn’t any round the clock watch to see who Redskins cornerback Josh Norman would cover against the Ravens this week, but his presence was significant for the team as starter Bashaud Breeland and backup Dashaun Phillips are both out this week after suffering injuries.

Norman has now joined them on the list of those needing medical assistance. Norman stayed down after tackling Ravens wideout Breshad Perriman short of the sticks on the final play of the first quarter and eventually walked off the field with the help of members of the training staff.

Norman’s injury came at the end of a drive that also saw Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith depart. Smith made a seven-yard catch for a first down and then went to the bench for a look at his ankle. He appeared to be getting it retaped before heading back to the locker room for a deeper look.

The Ravens scored early and the Redskins offense has one three-and-out to show for the first 15 minutes, but the quarter ended with a 7-6 score thanks to an 85-yard punt return by Jamison Crowder. Kicker Dustin Hopkins hit the upright on a windy day in Baltimore to keep the home team in the lead.

UPDATE 1:57 p.m. ET: Laura Okmin of FOX Sports reports Smith is having trouble putting weight on his right leg and that Norman cannot open or close his right hand.

UPDATE 2:07 p.m. ET: Norman has returned to the game.
