Charles Sims was just downgraded from doubtful to out, for at least the next eight weeks.

The Buccaneers just announced that the running back has been placed on injured reserve, the move they had to make to promote Russell Hansbrough from the practice squad.

Sims wasn’t going to play tonight anyway because of a knee injury, which leaves them thin in an important division game. But they apparently thought it might be some time before he might, to make the move now.

Sims was an acceptable passing-down back as a complement when Doug Martin was well, but his 2.8 yards per carry average made it hard to hold a roster spot for him for long.

With Martin doubtful for tonight’s game because of a hamstring injury, the Bucs will be down to Hansbrough, Jacquizz Rogers and Peyton Barber as their only backfield options.
