Bucs dominating, but have only a 6-0 lead to show for it

AP

The Buccaneers are playing good defense and dominating the time of possession.

They just can’t score touchdowns. The Bucs lead the Panthers at halftime, 6-0, despite having had the ball for nearly 22 of the first 30 minutes and forcing two turnovers.

Three times the Bucs have been in the red zone and have two field goals to show for it.

Panthers kicker Graham Gano missed a 43-yard field goal on the final drive of the first half. Gano is 8-of-11 on the season.

Neither kicker is especially popular right now. Buccaneers kicker Roberto Aguayo missed a 33-yard field goal off the upright in the second quarter but made a 35-yarder late in the first half. He’s now 3-of-6 on the season.

Jameis Winston is 9-of-14 for 85 yards. Jacquizz Rodgers has 17 carries for 71 yards.

Panthers quarterback Derek Anderson, playing in place of the injured Cam Newton, is 9-of-12 for 126 yards and an interception.

  1. They need to let Jameis open it up just a little bit. He is a bit too cautious. Kudos to Rodgers. I felt like he was a better multi-down back than Sims anyway. This game is the pits. Glad the Bucs are winning of course, but it should be 17-0 right now.

Speaking of barely being able to speak English…

  4. I know this is PFT. But Big Papi is one of the best DH of all time. Most baseball players make their money hitting. Frank Thomas is in the hall of fame. If you can hit well enough, your fielding isn’t a big deal. (Look at Miguel Cabrera) Big Papi is good enough to play first base but they just have him hit. Its baseball, 90% of the time is spent doing nothing. Only the pitcher, catcher, and first baseman can’t fool around the whole game.

  5. Mike McCoy’s decision to kick a field goal with 4th and half a yard to go with two minutes left in Oakland. Get the first down and win the game. Of course, coaches always take the safe road so they don’t end up on ridiculous lists like this.
