Dolphins claim Bene Benwikere

When the Panthers waived cornerback Bene Benwikere late last week, it came as a bit of a surprise as Benewikere had been playing a prominent role for Carolina this season.

Given Benwikere’s experience and the frequent cornerback needs around the league, it also seemed likely that Benwikere would not be without a job for long. That proved to be the case.

According to multiple reports, Benwikere has been claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins.

Miami opened the season with Byron Maxwell and rookie Xavien Howard as their starting cornerbacks, but benched Maxwell in favor of Tony Lippett in Week Four. Howard hurt his knee in that game and missed Sunday’s loss to the Titans, which meant Maxwell was back in the starting lineup. How Benwikere fits remains to be seen, but there’s likely to be more tinkering in the secondary as the Dolphins try to find a formula that can result in actual victories.

Do NFL waivers work like MLB waivers – a player is passed by teams in their own conference/league based on worst to best records, and then the same in the other conference/league ? Or is it worst to best records across the entire league ? If they follow the MLB model would be a little surprising he got past all the NFC teams…..

Dolphins could be the worse team in football.
Gase is also supposed to be a Quarterback guru, and it looks like Tannehill is regressing.

I think Gage is like McDaniels – a great OC but not a good HC.

At least they get Benwikere on the cheap. Between the $8.5M they are paying Maxwell this year (there’s another $5M in dead cap coming when they cut him in the off season btw) as well as the $3M hit for shipping Miko out of town Miami already has burned at that one spot the equivalent of what they are paying Tannehill with no real return. Come to think of it they aren’t getting much ROI out of the QB position either.

I love the fact that all you arm chair quarterbacks and coaches think you know anything about football. I bet more than 75% posters sucked at sports. Tannehill has no offensive line to speak of, as he was hit many times before he even throw the ball away. Billy Turner had to play tackle , which he hadn’t played since college 4 years ago and it showed. That’s 2nd game in a row that he has stunk at and might be cut. Gase can’t block for Tannehill either, but if they don’t healthy on the offensive line quick they may need another quarterback.
