Dolphins cut offensive linemen Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas

Dolphins coach Adam Gase has already benched people to send messages.

Now he’s cutting them.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Dolphins are cutting guard Billy Turner. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald adds that Dallas Thomas is being released as well.

Turner, a former third-round pick from North Dakota State, started the last two weeks at right guard. He started 12 games for the Dolphins last year. Thomas, a former third-rounder from Tennessee, filled in last week but was a 16-game starter for them a year ago.

With Gase outing the offensive line as the reason for quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s struggles, moves along the line aren’t unsurprising. And it’s clear that messages are being sent.

Welp. It was about time. These dudes just aren’t very good. Had bad rookie years and never got any better

May want to cut the QB as well. He’s the problem.

About time! It’s hard to believe that they couldn’t find anyone better than these two from the Canadian League, the waiver wire or someone’s practice squad. These guys are terrible.

  8. smarterfootball says: Oct 11, 2016 2:19 PM

Tannehill has been sacked 200 times in his career. You get hit that much it messes with even the toughest QB’s. The Dallas Thomas move makes a lot of sense, they replaced him with Sam Young. Thomas is not a tackle. The Turner move is a little surprising since, maybe Pouncey plays G and Streen remains at center?

I’m all for sending messages but these guys started this past Sunday because there obviously weren’t any better options. What about that has changed in the past couple days?

ex GM Jeff Ireland draft picks of course, who needs opponents to lose games?

  11. bassplucker says: Oct 11, 2016 2:27 PM

Gase isn’t messing around. It doesn’t look like there’s a huge dropoff in the quality of the Fins players from 1st to 3rd string – at least at certain positions – and the team is going nowhere this year, so he may as well go into preseason 2017 mode and quit wasting time on guys he knows aren’t gonna be part of the future.

  12. cafetero1075 says: Oct 11, 2016 2:27 PM

Yea those guys suck , but who’s going to back up Albert or any other guy. They get injured a lot.

  13. cafinfan says: Oct 11, 2016 2:34 PM

    The DYE is cast…………..

Gase may be a man/Coach that follow’s-up his words with action. If that is the case then the entire Team should take notice. “W’s” will save your job!!!!!

Interesting point made earlier. Why don’t more NFL Teams pilfer from Canadian Football? Is the talent that bad up north? I would think there has to be O-line with very good talent????

They are not the normal two starters. Branden Albert is getting over an illness that had him lose 12 pounds and Laremy Tunsil hurt his ankle before the game by slipping in the shower lol

This is true, but the OL play can’t get much worse. And frankly, signing/playing some unknown rookie or free agent who *might* be decent is a much better alternative than going with players you *know* stink

  19. finsbooyah says: Oct 11, 2016 2:55 PM

Every year, for the past 3 seasons, I was utterly convinced that neither of these guys would make the final 53 before the start of the regular season. And yet every year, they survived.

They should be proud that they lasted this long. Because anyone with eyes could see that they didn’t belong on an NFL field from day 1.

  20. 202folife says: Oct 11, 2016 2:56 PM

Get those two turnstiles outta here, they’ve been throwing “lookout” blocks since they’ve been in Miami. ✌🏾

  21. bsizemore68 says: Oct 11, 2016 3:00 PM

Billy Turner was man handle in Sundays game, and Dallas is Dallas. I think the message is clear, do your job, or good by. I think we can get some good prospect from the practice squads of teams like the Cowboys, or our friends in NE. Can’t wait to see who the replacements are. Bill

It wasn’t the Dolphins not seeing it, it was Tannenbaum. Now if Gase comes out and says he cut Tannenbaum next week, I might just renew those tickets I didn’t buy this year.

Even in a losing year Gase is giving himself and the team a positive identity, in that failure won’t be tolerated here anymore.

Our season is lost, but this could be the beginning of our franchise turning around.

I am totally fine with them getting cut. They weren’t quality depth and almost got our QB killed.

I like his coaching style. Why waste time on players you don’t see helping the team going forward.

Gase kinda reminds me of a young Shula. Tough on his players in regards to expectations.

Fan add wanted D. Thomas gone 2 years ago!
You always hoped Turner would “get it”, but he always played too soft!
Tannehill has sucked this year, but dude was getting molested like Trump on a married woman. 6 sacks in 3 Step drop pro shouldn’t happen. That’s indicative of bad OL play.

Thus starts the rebuilding process. #trashday
