The Panthers could use all the good news they can get right now, as they try to salvage an ugly 1-4 start.

They appear to have gotten a double dose today.

Via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review, quarterback Cam Newton and running back Jonathan Stewart were back at practice Wednesday.

Whether Newton has been cleared for full participation after missing last week with a concussion, or will be listed as limited today remains to be seen. But the fact he’s out on the field with a helmet is a good sign, after backup Derek Anderson turned the ball over three times Monday night.

And while they were still able to run against a depleted Buccaneers line last week, getting Stewart back from a hamstring injury will be another big step for a Panthers offense that has faltered this season.

“But the fact he’s out on the field with a helmet is a good sign,”

That’s far from being certain given the nature of concussions. Long-term is having your franchise QB rush back onto the field worth it when you’re 1-4? He’s been beat up this year a lot and has looked concussed a couple times prior to this incident even if the tests supposedly came out negative. If he were to get concussed yet again almost immediately his career could be in jeopardy.

As a Panther fan I will take any good news. Our season is not over but it is on life support.

Doesn’t a hamstring injury take 3-6 months to recover from? Recover to be able to return to athletic activities I mean.

Having Stewart back is good news for Panthers’ fans. If they are smart, they will keep Anderson in there and use Cam as #2.

Was Cam seen practicing his dabbing?

Season is over! Love how Cam flosses on the sideline during a game though… he looks really cool doing that.

Great news for us but I think he should sit for this game and come back for the Cards game.

Oh dear, does practice cut into Cam’s public skater boarding time??
