Jack Del Rio knows the Raiders still have a lot of work to do

The Silver and Black is back. On Wednesday, their head coach was back on PFT Live to reflect on the team’s first four games, and to discuss the things that need to happen as the season continues to unfold.

Jack Del Rio joined the program for a wide-ranging discussion on the state of the team, with topics including his willingness to roll the dice on fourth down, the improvements the team needs to make, and his thought on players laughing it up with opponents after a loss, which Chargers kicker Josh Lambo did on Sunday with Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski.

The full interview appears in the video attached to this story. If you’re reading this in the Rumor Mill, look down. In the separate story, look up.

Either way, every other AFC team needs to look out for the Raiders.

It’s been a long road but this team was blown up and rebuilt from scratch, they’ll be good for a long time.

Still plenty of time to be the same old 8-8 Raiders too. Most overrated team this season, thus far.

Lots of luck in those sloppy wins.

Whenever I need to get my employees motivated I always bring in a big tree stump and axe in the office and let everyone take a swing at it. Works really well. You should try it out Jack.

Cap’in Jack certainly has the Raiders believing the CAN win, but he is right that there is A LOT of work to do. The d-line really needs to start generating pressure to take burden off of the DBs. The Raiders back end simply cannot cover deep routes. Until the defense starts ranking AT LEAST in the top 15, every game will come down to a last minute drive by DC or a hope of a blunder by the opponent. PFF has the offense ranked as #2 in the league. The defense is #25.

WAY too early to start comparing this team to the SuperBowl team of ’02.

Hardly overrated. Good teams win close games. As many can attest, I am no Raider fan but I see a good young QB & WRs, a passable running game and a couple of young superstars on defense with a GM that is hell-bent on erasing dead money.
Andy Reid is 15-2 coming out of a bye week. If the Raiders can dodge the bullet this weekend they will be in the drivers seat for the AFC West. And it pains me to say so.

elsewhere, the chargers thought they’ve had everything go as planned.

maybe the Cleveland Browns management should get some tutoring from the Oakland Raiders ?

They will be better in Vegas

Getting closer, but still quite a ways to go. Would like to see the offense AND the defense play a complete game at the same time. It’s only 1 game, but it looks like they may have found another good player (Perry Riley) from the Redskins cast aways to go along with Amerson.

its a bummer about Vegas, the Raiders belong in Oakland like fat people belong in wisconsin. Shame.

It wasn’t that long ago that everyone was laughing at Mark Davis and his 1999 Dodge Caravan… nice job by Al Jr. so far. The NFL is always more interesting when the Raidahs are good!!!

Brilliant Jack, just brilliant. Your defense is last in most major categories. That’s what got you fired in Denver Jack, remember? And Wade took your exact defensive group, no changes, and turned them into overnight legends. Remember that Jack? Yes, is work to be done. Lots of work.

justbegbaby mad because everyone is talking about the Raiders instead of his overrated Broncos. Don’t worry bud when the Chargers blow that overrated defense out tomorrow night there will be nothing to talk about

Gotta love the haters……you know what happened the last time the Raiders were 4-1…..I really think defense will improve in a couple of weeks when Mario Edwards Jr, and Aldon Smith get back, and you can move Bruce Irvin and Khalil Mack back to OLB’s rather then haveing both LB’s playing DE positions……I also expect the QB pressure to vastly improve, which will help the secondary….Bottom line …..raiders are young, and learning……but are set for years to come. Alsaao props to Amari Cooper, Stacy McGee, and Perry Riley for being named PFF best player in the NFL week 5 at their positions.

    Go Raiders!

Del Rio didn’t get fired, he left Denver to become the head coach of the Raiders.

If you are going to be a troll, at least get your facts straight.!

Del Rio and the the entire John Fox coaching staff were fired from Denver. Google it!
