Joel Bitonio to miss extended time with foot injury

The Browns are getting center Cameron Erving back on the field this week, but that won’t return their offensive line to its original configuration.

Left guard Joel Bitonio is set to miss an extended period of time after suffering a mid-foot injury in last Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. The injury didn’t come to light immediately after the game, but teammates like left tackle Joe Thomas were talking about it on Wednesday and the team confirmed they’d be without Bitonio for a while.

“He’s been playing really well obviously,” Thomas said, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “He’s one of the best guard in the NFL in my opinion. If you lose that type of guy, he’s tough to replace.”

With Erving back, the Browns can move John Greco back to right guard and Alvin Bailey, who has been starting there, could shift to left guard. They also claimed Jonathan Cooper off of waivers from the Patriots this week and he could work his way into the mix and the Browns certainly have no shortage of experience when it comes to juggling players to cover for those missing with injuries.

Um, does it really matter? Not like they’re gonna make the playoffs this year. Might as well hope for the 1st pick in the draft…yet again.
