The Panthers took a step toward fixing their 1-4 problems, with quarterback Cam Newton a full participant in practice Thursday.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters that Newton still needed to be cleared by the independent neurologist after the concussion that kept him out of last week’s loss to the Buccaneers, but all signs point to him being ready to go Sunday against the Saints.

Via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review, Newton was in high spirits as he took snaps with the first team.

The Panthers won’t have left tackle Michael Oher, however, as he hasn’t made the same kind of progress through the protocol as Newton has.

Rivera said cornerback James Bradberry (toe) and defensive tackle Vernon Butler (ankle) won’t play this week either.

Trade him to Cleveland for a 4th rounder in 2017

Hopefully they had a drill that showed why you shouldn’t slow up and showboat across the goal line when a defender you taunted earlier in the game is about to knock your head off.

“Now Cam, cover your right eye and tell me what you see.”
“It’s a 1987 replica Indiana Jones cotton safari fedora with custom silver bunting and a two prong optional feather clip.”
    “You’re ready.”
