The Bills defense has turned things around in recent weeks without the help of defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and it looks like there’s a good chance they’ll have to keep it going without him again this weekend.
Dareus remained out of practice on Thursday with the hamstring injury he suffered in practice last week after he became eligible to rejoin the team following his four-game suspension. He didn’t play in Los Angeles last week and coach Rex Ryan sounded like he was planning to be without him against the 49ers.
“I would say probably [less optimistic] because he hasn’t practiced the last two days,” Ryan said, via the team’s website. “We’re still not going to rule him out, but yeah I wish he could’ve practiced.”
Dareus isn’t the first player to come down with an injury after an extended layoff due to suspension or contract issues and there’s little the Bills can do other than wait for the hamstring to heal. When it does, the Bills defense should get a boost although, as mentioned, the unit has been doing pretty well without him of late.
