IRS says Brent Grimes owes $191,471 in taxes

Cornerback Brent Grimes signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers earlier this year, but a chunk of the money that’s supposed to be headed his way may need to be redirected to the tax man.

Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that Grimes, who played three years with the Dolphins before being released this offseason, owes $191,471 to the Internal Revenue Service. The information comes from a lien filed in Broward County on a Davie, Florida home owned by Grimes and his wife Miko.

According to the lien, the Grimes family owes money dating back to 2014 and the IRS has “made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid.”

Those who have followed Grimes’ career know that Miko has never shied away from using social media to take on those she feels are critical of her husband, his teammates or anyone else that might fall into the crosshairs. Her Twitter account is protected from public view, but Deadspin shares a response to Beasley — “my husband said since ur obsessed with me u can come over and eat my a– while im in town on the bye week” — that suggests things haven’t changed since his move to Tampa.

I’ve met both of them. He’s nice, quiet. She’s nice in person, nothing at all what she’s like online. Can’t say for sure but he’s been making millions for years and if this only goes back to 2014 I’d bet it’s an accountant error, not a pattern. If they find others from earlier years or if they did it again in 2015, different story. But my guess is that someone goofed and it’s a one-off.

    Brent Grimes > Richard Sherman
John Kuhn > Mark Ingram and Eddie Lacy
Shippensburg > Alabama and Stanford at combined optimal power, both in football and academics

And none of those are even close. Deal with it.

In all fairness, since all of the IRS Executives were allowed to plead the 5th and walk away from corruption without being held accountable, shouldn’t the Grimes family have the same opportunity?

    Our government is so corrupt….

Staying with FOOTBALL, Grimes made a heck of an interception Monday Night in the end zone late in the game that led to the Bucs win.

Maybe I’m wrong, but isn’t that private information the IRS is giving out?

  34. grumpysal says: Oct 14, 2016 11:09 AM

Nope, the lien is public and the local newspaper is the one who found it and reported on it, not the IRS.

Miko makes me laugh. She is always tweeting about “us” and “we” when she is talking about her husband. Last I checked, Miko hasnt done anything except marry a NFL player.

Call me a cynic, but I always felt that your spouse should complement who, make you a better person, as opposed to being a noisy windbag with a potty mouth who is clearly riding along on your accomplishments.

Personally, I think anyone here making assumptions is overstepping. Without true knowledge of the situation, we don’t know what the cause was…and frankly, it is none of our business.
