Saints claim rookie quarterback

The Saints have claimed rookie quarterback Joe Callahan via waivers from the Packers.

The Packers waived Callahan Thursday. He had made the team — and apparently made an impression on the Saints — with a strong preseason showing. Callahan is an undrafted rookie who played Div. III college football at Wesley.

The Saints had been going with just Drew Brees and Luke McCown at quarterback on the active roster since cutting Garrett Grayson, a second-year player who’s on the practice squad.

The Saints cut veteran tackle Khalif Barnes to create room on the roster for Callahan.

Small and slow, but he found ways to get the job done in the preseason.

Joe Callahan was going to be our QB of the future. Maybe it would’ve been next year. Because Aaron is on the decline. Now we’ll have to suffer even longer wondering if Aaron can get back to average.

Ignore posts No. 1 and 2, they’re Viking trolls. Especially No. 2………he has self-esteem issues and enjoys pretending.

The Saints picked up a sleeper. This kid knows how to make plays and move the chains.

Joe Callahan was NEVER the future in Green Bay. Brett Hundley is the future, not some guy from D2.

Many Packers fans were dumbfounded with the love our org had for this guy. I guess they thought they might get lucky and have no one claim him this far into the season but there he goes… I’m sure Ted Thompson is wearing black the next 3 days. Are the Packers flags at half mast at 1265?

Cool story. How about we rustle up some defensive help?

I hope he can friggin’ play DEFENSE as well – wth?

Now Ted can go grab an eighth wideout who can’t get open!

Crap. Hundley is NOT the future. He’ll be gone before his rookie contract expires.

Look up the word bust. It does mean what you think it does.

    Callahan is a JAG!

I predict Luke McCown is being traded to the Browns. How can the Saints carry 3 QB’s on a team depleted by injuries on defense?

    _____________

Moneyball says the Browns are not interested in winning this year. They have to hold off the Bears, Niners and ‘Phins in the race to win the 2017 QB sweepstakes

Callahan is Flynn double. He ain’t taking you anywhere. Too short ant not mobile.

  16. immafubared says: Oct 14, 2016 11:20 PM

Rocket science ted could have traded this guy and got a pick. He had to know someone would claim him so he gets nothing in return. Hope kindly is the answer

Cool, Viketrolls even show up on Saints articles about undrafted free agents that played in the preseason for Green Bay. I think I even saw some of them comment on a USA Today article about how people pack for their vacations.

He’ll be cut before Halloween. They picked him up to block the Falcons from picking him up. They would have made the move to mine information on the Packers…who the Falcons play on the 30th. Gamesmanship like this is quite common….

As a Packer fan, I’m happy that Callahan has a shot on a new team, though I’m sad to see him leave GB. Good luck to you, Joe!
