Andy Reid’s bye week magic helps Chiefs dominate the Raiders

You don’t want to face Andy Reid after a bye week.

Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, had his team ready to play with two weeks to prepare today on a rainy, muddy day in Oakland, and Kansas City won easily, 26-10.

In his years as coach of the Chiefs and Eagles, Reid is now an incredible 16-2 after bye weeks. Reid has said that he spends his bye weeks doing self-scouting, and whatever he does, he does it very well.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was methodical and efficient, completing 19 of 22 passes for 224 yards, and running back Spencer Ware added 24 carries for 131 yards on the ground. Jamaal Charles had his first touchdown since last year’s knee injury, although he had just nine carries for 33 yards overall, and he doesn’t appear ready to move ahead of Ware on the depth chart just yet.

The Raiders got a big game from Amari Cooper, who had 10 catches for 129 yards, but little else worked on offense. It was a disappointing effort for an Oakland team that had an opportunity to take control of the AFC West.

Instead, the Chiefs improve to 3-2, the Raiders fall to 4-2, and the AFC West is wide open.

You know you suck when you get blown out by the Chiefs. David Carr threw for 225 yards and the Raiders still lose. #justflush #justsuck #youloseagain Right Joe!?!

The Chiefs were coming off a bye and really needed this game, and they did what they had to do to win.

    Hats off to them.

Carr definitely had an off day and I think the Raiders really missed Murray, both Washington and Richard are change of pace backs.

Hey, I thought Del Rio was getting fitted for a a SB ring based on earlier articles.

  4. araidersfan says: Oct 16, 2016 7:02 PM

No excuses coming from this Raiders fan. The Chiefs completely whipped the Raiders in all aspects of the game. I knew the Raiders defense was very bad but K.C. also rendered importent the Raiders offense and special teams. I hate to say this, but at this point the Chiefs are the clearly the best team in the AFCW.

The Raiders play in Jacksonville next week and hopefully they can put this embarrassment behind them and play well enough to get back on the winning track against Del Rio’s old team. I also hope that they’re still in the thick of the playoff race and can put forth a better performance for the rematch with the Chiefs on December 8.

The Raiders have coordinator problems. On both sides of the ball. The defense appears to be unprepared weekly. I stand by my statement of months ago that Ken Norton Jr. is not the guy. He’s not fixing anything. They have the talent to be much better than worst in the league.
Bill Musgrave is conservative and totally predictable. I could call the game for him. And I’m not an NFL defensive coordinator. When you have a young QB like Carr checking out of the called plays on a routine basis, you have a play calling problem. Period.
There need to be changes, but, since they’re moving, I’m really not sure I care. I barely remembered to watch today’s game. And, from what I saw on the tube, the place was half empty. Against KC. It was raining, but that’s unheard of.
I think I’m not the only one sick of this perpetual lame-duck team.
If they’re moving, they should move next year. Rip the Band-Aid off. Don’t hang around.
    Beat it….

Amari Cooper had 9 catches at half. What happened the second half? Only one catch. Crabtree was MIA today. KC punched them in the mouth with the run game. The score was much closer than it could have been.

Nice D. How did GOAT Carr wreck do? Never mind. Congrats to the Chiefs for beeyotch slapping the great Raiders at home. Nation, what time is tomorrows parade? Will GOAT Reggie be there?

  16. slick50ks says: Oct 16, 2016 7:41 PM

That’s the worst team the Chiefs have seen this year. We all knew they were overrated, but this is a team with a huge void of talent. Even without our corners, the Chiefs are the best defense the fade have seen this season. A total fraud that will be lucky to finish .500.

  17. raiderlyfe510 says: Oct 16, 2016 7:43 PM

Ken Norton system is a basic scheme designed for elite personnel. Las Vegas just doesn’t have elite personnel on defense.

Raiders need a D Coordinator who can build the scheme around the players. Did Mike Smith come out of retirement yet?

  18. orivar says: Oct 16, 2016 7:45 PM

Andy Reid is a really good coach Hall Of Fame coach. He’s approaching .600 in percentage. If he didn’t have that drama that unfortunately ended badly with his sons, he’d be even higher with wins. 4 & 12 was an anomaly. I

Knowing how incredibly bad the Raider defense is playing, it is up to Carr and the offense to keep them in games. Carr failed miserably today. He was hearing footsteps and seeing shadows all afternoon. Today just shows how far Oakland has to go to be a legitimate threat in the division. They got curb-stomped by a better team. Still a long ways to go this season, but that was a bad display. And it’s time for Norton to be shown the door. He is just not getting it done.

  27. raiderlyfe510 says: Oct 16, 2016 8:07 PM

  28. therealraider says: Oct 16, 2016 8:10 PM

This was the type of game Raider fans have been dreading.. We knew it was coming.. The defense has been sorry all season. We knew it was only a matter of time before the offense has a bad game and we get rolled.. unless we score 30 points we aren’t beating anybody. There is too much talent on this defense for it to be dead last in the NFL.. Sean Smith has been to Pro Bowls, so has Reggie Nelson, so has Bruce Irvin so has Khalil Mack.. This defense is clearly under-achieving. They are confused, there’s mis-substitutions.. poor tackling. Del Rio is going to have to take a heavier hand on a permanent basis for the rest of the season if the Raider defense is going to improve.

Nobody hears from you when the Chiefs lose a game. You weren’t barking when the Steelers spanked your club before the bye. Easy enough to be a frontrunner.

This was a bad matchup for the Raiders, having to play a better team and all…

  34. bighoser says: Oct 16, 2016 8:47 PM

Something needs to change because the defense has too much talent to look that bad. There is no way Smith, Irvine, and Nelson could fall off a cliff like that just because they joined a new team. Something is going on and I think it has to do with the coaching and scheming. Norton might have to go. They made Captain Checkdown look like an all pro, for crying out loud, and they still can’t tackle any RB near the line of scrimmage.

  35. turboteig says: Oct 16, 2016 9:00 PM

As much as I dislike the Raiders if the Chiefs can’t win the division I want it to be then. Loaded with talent and not the Broncos. I’m glad we won but if push comes to shove “Go Raiders?”

The Raiders just came off a three-game winning streak. Today they lost like all teams do. Even the Broncos, Steelers and Patriots get rocked sometimes.
This team is young and explosive. A soggy field and rain can shut down any high-powered offense. Chiefs came in prepared like they always do after a bye, and they always play hard D.
The Raiders are gonna get better and better. That’s what happens when studs play together for a period of time.
All us Raider fans should just enjoy watching their growth and enjoy the fireworks.
Good game Chiefs. Looking forward to the rematch later this season.

  41. platinumraider32 says: Oct 17, 2016 12:14 AM

That shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiah………… the Raiders did today was borderline illegal.

Prop’s to the Chiefs for playing us the way they always do: Conservative on offense, run the ball well and pass off the play action.

If you gonna roll over Raiders……..at least make it look good, dayum. That was tragic. You let the fans’ down from an emotional standpoint. Had no energy, couldn’t tell “we”
were the 1st place team. Played like a bottom feeder and your entire coaching staff is looking real suspect. Reggie M. has put the chips on the table…………and now the coaching staff is being “exposed”!

Better get it together or else you will never live this down. This is when G.M’s take the heat they don’t deserve!!!!!!!!

    we’ll clock in next week!!!

  42. drummer1279 says: Oct 17, 2016 1:04 AM

Congratulations Chiefs fans, you took it to us today. After our first drive you outplayed us the rest of the way. Our defense was terrible (no surprise), but our offense couldn’t get it going as well. Carr had a terrible game, and we can’t expect him to carry the team and score 30+ points a week to pull out a win.

With that being said, I think the Raiders are better than they showed today, and with our horrific play we made the Chiefs look better than they truly are. The Raiders offensive and defense coordinators are a liability every week, and they need to step it up, or get out. Our play calling on both sides of the ball is atrocious, and so utterly predictable. Until this is fixed, we’ll have little chance to contend against the Bronco’s and Chiefs. I hope the Raiders put out a better effort in KC in December.

  43. araidersfan says: Oct 17, 2016 6:03 AM

It’s hilarious to see Denver Donkey trolls in here especially considering that their own team got soundly beaten by the Chargers, they’re currently riding a 2 game losing skid and the four teams they’ve beaten so far this season all have losing records.

Not sure what Bungle fans are doing here, since it’s been 5 years since the Carson Palmer trade. Also their team got beaten as badly yesterday as the Raiders, the Bungles haven’t won a playoff game in 26 years and the only thing keeping their lousy 2-4 team out of the AFCN divisional basement is Hue Jackson’s Browns.

  44. felixinmiami says: Oct 17, 2016 9:39 AM

raidersfan… “Also their team got beaten as badly yesterday as the Raiders, the Bungles haven’t won a playoff game in 26 years and the only thing keeping their lousy 2-4 team out of the AFCN divisional basement is Hue Jackson’s Browns.”

    HA! Well stated.

  45. jjackwagon says: Oct 17, 2016 9:43 AM

This rivalry is better when both teams are good. Chiefs made better half-time adjustments and pitched a shutout in the 2nd half. Suddenly Dee Ford is showing signs of life. Derek looked more like David today.
The score could have been a lot worse but Andy has too much class for that. As evidenced by the kneel down with 1st & goal at the end of the game.
I still wish they had unleashed the four-headed monster(Charles, West, Ware, Davis) against the 32nd ranked rushing defense.
Here’s to hoping the Raiders now run rough-shod over the Broncos & Chargers.

  46. theangrytammy says: Oct 17, 2016 11:27 AM

Nation, have your playoff tix been printed yet? Oh wait, that was last week. Never mind.

  47. dougydougdoug says: Oct 17, 2016 11:34 AM

The Raiders are still a bad team. It’s going to take more than a quick start to the season to shake that. This one game might very well have decided their season, and not only did they lose it, they were simply smashed in the face, at home, in front of their beloved tarp.

Had they won, they would be sitting well enough atop the rest of the AFC West, that they’d have some breathing room. But now, they’re back down in the fray. KC looks solid. Denver will find a way to win some more games. SD finally found a way to win one of their close games.

  48. theangrytammy says: Oct 17, 2016 11:49 AM

Wow, Raiders lead the League in giving up 10 passes for 40 yards or more. That is so playoff killa!

  49. silvernblacksabbath says: Oct 18, 2016 11:00 AM

Imagine if the Raiders had Wade Phillips as DC instead of Norton.. Geez… Can we fire Norton yet???

  50. jjackson0481 says: Oct 19, 2016 5:23 AM

These delusional “the Raiders are better than they showed and the Chiefs are worse” comments are ridiculous. KC beat you in every aspect, AT HOME. The Raiders had their weaknesses exposed. When Dee Ford has as many sacks in one game as Mack has all season, you know you have problems. In my opiniin, I think most people would agree we saw the real Chiefs vs the real Raiders on sunday. You faced the best running game/defense you’ve seen all year, and had no answers, the better team won, good luck at Arrowhead, I’ve heard it’s a very easy place to win!

  51. silvernblacksabbath says: Oct 19, 2016 10:34 AM

Raiders won’t make the playoffs. Unfortunately, I expect a 2 or 3 game losing streak right about now…
