The Bears moved the ball well several times and they got the ball inside the 30 after a Jaguars fumble in the fourth quarter on Sunday, but they only scored one touchdown while opening up a 16-7 lead with 8:28 left to play in the game.

The failure to get more points on the board came back to bite the Bears as the Jaguars drove for a pair of scores over the next five-plus minutes to take a 17-16 lead they wouldn’t relinquish before the final whistle. The Bears also kicked three field goals in their Week Five loss to the Colts and the Bears have scored the fewest points in the league this season, which left wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to draw a pretty simple conclusion about what needs to change if Chicago’s going to win more games this season.

“We have to score f---ing touchdowns,” Jeffery said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s it. period. Touchdowns win games. See what three points get us?”

The issue for the Bears right now is whether there’s enough talent on hand to make a significant difference on the scoreboard. Things were a bit better on the scoring front last year, but the Bears still finished 6-10 and this year’s roster isn’t noticeably better with injuries keeping several starters off the field for some or all of the year.

Changing that isn’t going to be an overnight process and that likely means some more rough sailing over the rest of the season.
