NFL has another Burfict play from New England to examine

CINCINNATI, OH - SEPTEMBER 29: Vontaze Burfict #55 of the Cincinnati Bengals calls a defensive play during the first quarter of the game against the Miami Dolphins at Paul Brown Stadium on September 29, 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by John Grieshop/Getty Images) Getty Images

Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was already facing potential discipline for a cheap shot at the knee of Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett during Sunday’s game.

The NFL has at least one more play from that game to look at as well.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss tweeted coaches’ video Monday that shows Burfict appearing to stomp on — or at least in the direction of — Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount following Blount’s 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Blount was clearly angry about whatever happened after the play; he got up from the pile and shoved Burfict.

Burfict’s repeated dirty play got him suspended for the first three games of this season. The NFL finally treated him as a multiple offender when handing down that suspension, and Burfict’s history could be weighed when penalties from his actions in New England are handed down.

Maybe you should have clicked on the link, the film was courtesy of the league office. Couldn’t help but notice all the concern you didn’t show on the Roethlisberger articles, or any of the other Steelers articles there factman. Care to finally disclose what team you really root for and just how the mean ol’ Pats have left you so horribly scarred?

  29. factpurveyor says: Oct 17, 2016 8:28 PM

Should get at least 8 game suspension.

    5 for the knee
    3 for the stomp

But give him a 10 game suspension and then he can grovel to Goodell and the benevolent dictator can drop it down to 8 games.

  31. liberalmel says: Oct 17, 2016 8:31 PM

Try to injure someone multiple times and you get no suspension until you do it the 50th time.

Allegedly footballs were deflated against your knowledge and you’re suspended for 5 games while you’re the face of the league.

And the league wonders why ratings are down. Hope they continue to slide. Burfict is dirtier than Troy Palumalo and Rodney Harrison, which I thought could never happen.

  41. drocity says: Oct 17, 2016 8:59 PM

I’m Pat’s fan and I understand how Blount got pissed, but it didn’t look like a malicious stomp in the video. It looked like he was trying to step between the bodies and legs and probably caught Blount’s leg/ankle. Now why would he be trying to step into the pile in the first place, though? So maybe it was a little accidental-on-purpose. Unfortunately for Burfict he does not get the benefit of the doubt.

I just can’t believe that the sons of one of the all time NFL legends, the great Paul Brown, have no regard for character when they evaluate personnel. We see this time and time and time again, with the Bengals.

  46. bengalsfan2079 says: Oct 17, 2016 9:20 PM

I say this as a Bengals fan I dont know if that was that dirty but I will say the one on Bennett was very dirty. I don’t like the way this team is trending there is absolutely no accountability for anything it’s just welp we didn’t play good so let’s move on to the next week. There are so many problems with this team I think 8-8 is best case scenario. Dalton is being wasted this year he’s played very well. Andy AJ Dunlap Gio Dunlap are the only ones playing hard the rest are just there. If we don’t win a playoff game that’s it Head coach and coordinators should be gone. Blow it up.

  47. laserw says: Oct 17, 2016 9:24 PM

Then just imagine the cacophony of fools and idiots on here if it had been a Patriot player that stomped on someone’s ankle after the play was over?

Why you alone would make at least 30 comments calling for the player to be given the death sentence and Belichick to be suspended for 37 games at least.

  50. raymondmac says: Oct 17, 2016 9:30 PM

I watched the video clip a few times. Burfict steps forward into the pile and steps on Blount, who gets up, looks at who just stepped on him and gives Burfict a hard shove back.

Who does the ref throw the hanky on?

The guy who just got deliberately stepped on.

the bangles are a dirty, classless group of scrubs.

  51. harrisonhits2 says: Oct 17, 2016 9:34 PM

Poor terripet. You already know how the rest of this season will go.

You Bills might win one or two more, just enough to get you really hopeful you won’t be watching the Bills sit at home during the playoffs, then it will be wham, lose 5 or 6 in a row and no playoffs for you.

Meanwhile you will watch the Pats get, at the very least, to the AFCC again while all you can do is gnaw on your extremities and make futile posts here about the Pats.

Meanwhile the Pats fans and everyone else around the NFL will be laughing at the Bills as their drought continues and they watch the playoffs from their couches once again.

Burfict should be out for the rest of 2016 and any possible playoff games.

He no longer gets any benefit of the doubt.

After that should be a two season ban.

After that (in what would be the 2019 season) should be a lifetime ban.

  58. rootpain says: Oct 17, 2016 10:05 PM

You have a loser for an owner, a loser for a coach and a loser out to maim anyone he can. I suppose Mike Brown is going to tell us that he knows a different side to Burfict than the public side.
Well Mr. Integrity of the Shield, I guess it’s up to you. I suppose you’re going to suspend Brady for another four games because in the video, he had an unobstructed view of what Burfict did and was pointing it out rather than keeping it all in the NFL family. Conduct detrimental.

  59. nolasoxfan2012 says: Oct 17, 2016 10:11 PM

As with the other one against Bennett, there’s a ref right bleeping there. He even appears to be looking right at what’s happening. Check the video. How do they miss it? Is he making a mental dinner order? Or, how do they call the subsequent push as a penalty when they literally just saw what triggered it?

  60. whenwilliteverend says: Oct 17, 2016 10:21 PM

The only reason this man plays football is so he can hurt people, I truly believe that.
Watch him for a ten or twelve play stretch, just focus on him. Every play, nearly, he is the last man on the pile, spearing into the pile helmet first and arms at his sides. He never misses a chance to try and injure, it is absolutely his primary goal on every play.
He will NEVER change, because, again, his goal is not to win football games, he doesn’t CARE if he’s hurting his team, because ALL he cares about is hurting people. Period.
Would LOVE to see the gutless soulless coward try Blount man to man… that punch at Boise may have been a sucker punch, but the dude asked for it, and that punch traveled all of a foot and knocked him out cold…
Football has always had its cheap-shot artists, it’s guys who everybody else spends the whole game watching each other’s backs for, but Burfict is the most blatant cripplers and dangerous players that have ever played the game. He should join Greg Hardy in MMA, but he doesn’t have the stones for that, he’d have to fight fair.

Burfict is a psycho. Defend his compulsion to hurt and soon it will be your team’s players he’s going to hurt next.
The Patriot players won’t take that c- rap in their own stadium. You think Gronk will stand down? I was just waiting for him to take Burfict out of the club. That game was sure unusually rowdy for a Patriot game.

There is no place for a player that does this as well as targets another players knee in the same game…when you add the past history of the player and the fact they are fresh off a suspension, there is no longer any need for discussion…this shouldn’t even be just the commisioner the NFLPA should be asked to comment becuase they now find themselves having to defend a guy who is trying to end the career of a fellow player…lets hear from them first…

The reputation is both expansive and expensive. This marked the eighth time in 53 career NFL games Burfict was fined. Counting lost game checks due to his three-game suspension earlier this year, those fines total $805,400.

Week 3, 2013: $10K — striking Packers’ Ryan Taylor in the groin
Week 3, 2013: $21K — hit on defenseless player, Packers’ James Jones
Week 8, 2013: $21K — spearing New York Jets’ WR Stephen Hill
Week 6, 2014: $25K — ankle twisting Cam Newton and Greg Olsen
Week 13, 2015: $69.4K — three separate unsportsmanlike incidents vs. Steelers
Week 17, 2015: $50K — hit to defenseless tight end Maxx Williams away from play
Wildcard Playoffs, 2016: $534K — three-game suspension — multiple violations of player-safety rules including hit on Antonio Brown
Week 6, 2016: $75K — stomping on leg of LeGarrette Blount
