With the Jets down 28-3 in the fourth quarter Monday night, Jets coach Todd Bowles replaced quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with Geno Smith.

The Cardinals went up 28-3 on a Carson Palmer pass to Michael Floyd with 8:20 remaining. That followed Fitzpatrick’s first interception of the night.

Fitzpatrick was 16-of-31 for 174 yards.

The Jets moved into Cardinals territory on Smith’s only drive but Alex Okafor sacked Smith on third down and on fourth down he was intercepted by Tyrann Mathieu.

David Johnson ran for the first three Cardinals touchdowns. After Floyd’s touchdown the Cardinals announced that Palmer had a strained hamstring. With the game decided, he was kept on the sideline and Drew Stanton came in to finish the game.

The appearance was the first of the season for Smith. In the first half, ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters said on the broadcast that Smith had told her he was “getting antsy.”
