This may not be why the Jets were hesitant to pay Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason, but it makes it convenient that they didn’t invest.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets have decided to change starting quarterbacks, benching Fitzpatrick in favor of deposed starter Geno Smith.
Fitzpatrick has struggled, but Jets coach Todd Bowles initially said he was sticking with him after Monday’s loss to the Cardinals. He walked back a bit of that support yesterday, opening the door to give Smith a second chance to be the starter.
The numbers alone justify the move, as Fitzpatrick has five touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the 1-5 Jets.
