Report: Roethlisberger absence now pegged at 4-6 weeks

Earlier this week, Steelers backup quarterback Landry Jones said he wasn’t ready to rule Ben Roethlisberger out this week, though coach Mike Tomlin quickly doused that the following day.

But it might be much longer than a week before Roethlisberger returns.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the timetable for Roethlisberger after knee surgery has moved from a week or two to four-to-six.

The Steelers have a bye week after this week’s game against the Patriots, which had some hoping Roethlisberger might return after the bye to play the Ravens. But now games against the Cowboys and Browns are very much in doubt.

Roethlisberger admitted that last year’s injury could be a factor in his current situation, and it appears he’s going to be out longer than anyone with the team anticipated.

  1. Jerry Jones is looking real smart for drafting Dak Prescott in the 4th round. You never know when your QB is going to go down, and you better have a good backup. Otherwise, your season is down the drain. Landry Jones has potential. He could end up being good too. You never know until you get them on the field.

  2. Why would anyone believe anything Mortensen said! He never corrected the erroneous PSI levels!! Never admitted his mistake. Never apologized.
    Not the most reliable source!

  3. The NFL needs our marquee stars on the field.

Ben. Brady. Manning. Rodgers. Romo. Brees.

No more cheap dirty shots on QBs from angry players on crappy teams.

    10 game suspension for vontez

  4. Fantasy owners are now crossing their fingers that someone tells Landry Jones that Antonio Brown exists and is not simply an urban legend.

  5. Ben put this out so that when he does come back in 2 weeks fans and media will say, “What a tough cookie!”

  6. OUFFFF… huge blow to the product if true. I mean the AFC WAS ALREADY arguably a ONE team conference.

    That said..

It’s MORT!!! Really? Mort!?? I thought he got shelved after the whole deflategate stuff? Wasn’t his report off by some ridiculous numbers, or was that just Pats fans on the defensive?

I could be wrong, but I thought he botched the initial report and it set the whole thing a blaze.

If the later, this guy can’t be trusted in slightest. Much like anyone else aside from Adam Sheffler on that hack network.

Actually, Jones was lucky. He really, really wanted P. Lynch, tried to trade up and got aced by Denver. His second choice, Cook, was taken one choice before Dallas by the Raiders. Dak was kind of an afterthought and appears to be the best qb in the draft.

  8. Guess AB won’t be doing too much dancing in the end zone this week. Although he could score on an end around.

Get well soon Ben. Ravens/Steelers just not the same without you.

  9. 11 of 12 Mort. 11 of 12. You own that Mort. I will never read another report by you and not think of that.

As I have said my entire life…I’d rather be lucky than good any day 🙂

  11. Time for the Steelers to draft a QB. Roethlisberger can’t play a full season anymore. Plus he is taking too much cap space to build a great defense that can win a championship.

  12. and let’s not forget Steeler faithful the 2 games back after the injury where he ALWAYS plays like dog crap, so might as well call it 6-8

No, he was not shelved over the flat footballs. He was on the shelf because he has cancer.

  14. This is inevitable. Big Ben is a fat mess of a QB who doesn’t bother to eat right or stay in shape. On top of that, he likes to play hero ball and never just throw it away or take a sack. He is exposing himself to way too many hits. Injuries like this are going to keep happening every year until he’s ultimately done in by them.

Ben needs to get on the Tom Brady routine of working out and eating right 24/7/365. Put down the double bacon cheeseburger you fat slob.

  15. You know he’ll hobble back after 3 weeks and never stop reminding us how much pain he’s in and how he’s far from 100%. This guy is such a limelight seeking hero, it’s disgusting. Collinsworth will be gushing about how much of a “tough guy” fat boy Ben is.

  16. I’m glad I have a decent backup QB on my fantasy team, Phillip Rivers. But he has a bye in week 11, so I need Ben back by then. Wouldn’t want to go into a fantasy matchup with Cody Kessler or Geno Smith or someone like that……

  17. Steelers had no shot of making any noise in AFC anyway. Tomlin WAY overrated, Big ben is on the downside of his career, mainly because he is a fat toad. They have no D. Pats easily win, and easily walk to 5th SB Title, yawn

If the Patriots beat them it doesn’t count. You have to beat the starter for it to count. That’s what their fans told Bills fans.
    ——————————–
You have to at least beat the back up.

Doesn’t count if you beat the injured rookie third string QB.

  19. Maurkice Pouncey might want to take a good long look at what he’s stirred up this week. He badly missed his block and because of it Big Ben has to sit. He’s a Pro Bowl center who is much better then that display.

  20. I believe Landry Jones can get it done. He just has to believe in himself.

I think it would be interesting if Dallas lost to the Steelers with Landry @ QB!

  21. Wow! Big Ben needs to retire, so he can enjoy his children when he is 50. It seems he misses chunks of games, almost every year. He may get an injury where he misses an entire season. A problem with his knees, could only mean he may not be able to walk when he’s 50! Trade or cut him, but he really needs to retire!!
    PLEASE NOTE MY SARCASM!!!!!!!

My Tony Romo will be back in 3 weeks and I couldn’t be happier 🙂 Dak is awesome and the heir apparent.
I wish nothing but the best for Big Ben and here’s to getting well soon!!!!!!!

So what about the Patriots win over the Browns? Because in that game, they didn’t play the started (RGIII), the backup (McCown), and for a good chunk of the game, the third stringer (Kessler). In fact, by the end of the game they weren’t even playing the FOURTH stringer (Whitehurst). So does it count if you beat the FIFTH stringer who is actually a WR (Pryor)?

This is not helping my scenario of the SteAlers somehow beating New England in the AFCCG so Seattle can have Retribution 51

    ————-

Seattle will have their chance in Foxboro in a few weeks. I predict Brady will light them up and expose the legion of boom once again….

No. Ben got hurt after the interception when a defender was shielding him from getting in on the tackle and Ben fell to the ground awkwardly. If Ben did not force the ball into a diving receiver that was covered, he would not have been injured.

Steelers were 4-1 in a division that is crumbling and they were going to get key injuries back in the next few weeks. Hardly no shot.

  26. Report: Roethlisberger absence now pegged at 4-6 weeks

    ——

which means he’ll be back for the Ravens game for another shot at ‘hero status’ and ‘a great story’, which he failed at this past Sunday.

  27. I do not believe anything that is attributed to Mort. The guy defines hyperbole. I do not trust him any farther than i can throw him.

I’ll wait for team announcements, thank you.

    Get well soon Ben.

  28. A lot of comments from the Brady “intolerables” on Ben, most are from the shallow end of the gene pool. I think if Ben was protected like Tammy Brady he wouldn’t get beat up as much.

  29. No. Ben got hurt after the interception when a defender was shielding him from getting in on the tackle and Ben fell to the ground awkwardly. If Ben did not force the ball into a diving receiver that was covered, he would not have been injured

Enough, not sure were looking at the same thing. Maurkice pounceys man blew through the line and swiped at Big Bens leg while he was rolling to the right. That’s where the injury occurred. Go back and see the video again. Nevertheless, we need him back on the field and healthy. Go Steelers!

  30. Agree w/steelcurtainn –

The O-Line protection failed miserably, as did Pouncey on that play . . .

To add insult to injury, the Miami defensive player rolled over on the leg too.

Hoping it’s not 4 – 6 weeks; but either way, I’d rather have Ben at 100% than rushing things. To those who say he is a fat out of shape slob, he lost a ton of weight in the offseason and is in the best shape of his life.

That being said, Steelers would win the AFC North, but it will be Denver and New England in the AFC Championship. The Steelers’ defense is horrible. Keith Butler has to go.

  31. I don’t see how anybody can reliably know how long it will take for the injury to be healed enough for Ben to play, although it will likely come down to how much pain Ben can take, which history shows is quite a bit for all you big mouth arm chair experts who can’t hold Ben’s jock. I am hoping for a return by the Ravens game, for sure the Cowboys.

  32. Right now, that lowlife Vontaze Burfict has one of those Wile E. Coyote blueprints of Roethlisberger’s knee and he’s studying the best way to cheap shot him when they meet in December. Watching that guy mentally self-destruct last week against the Pats when it was clear the Bengals were going to lose was eye-opening for me even though I’ve seen his low-light reel enough times.

I hope Ben gets, and stays healthy for the rest of the year, and if it takes 4-6 weeks, so be it.
