The Bengals haven’t had tight end Tyler Eifert in a game yet this season, but it looks like Eifert will take a step toward changing that on Wednesday.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that Eifert will practice with the team on Wednesday, which would mark the first time he’s been on the field in a couple of weeks.
Eifert was out all summer and into the regular season after having ankle surgery late in the offseason, but began practicing in hopes of making his debut in Week Five. Those plans were put on hold after he deveoped a back injury that’s kept him out of the last two games, both of which the Bengals lost to drop their record to 2-4.
They’ve missed Eifert’s presence as a red zone target for Andy Dalton in all four of those losses and his return would be a boost for an offense that has moved the ball fairly well without scoring enough to rank higher than 29th in the league in points.
