Geno Smith’s return to the Jets lineup turned out to be a short one.

Smith was sacked by Ravens linebacker Matt Judon in the second quarter and limped off the field to get attention from the team’s training staff. He spent time laid out on a table as they looked at his knee, got up to try some jogging and then headed back to the locker room with just over six minutes to play in the half.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is warming up on the sideline and looks set to enter the game the next time the Jets get the ball. Fitzpatrick was benched in favor of Smith in last Monday’s loss to the Cardinals and coach Todd Bowles announced later in the week that Smith would start against the Ravens.

Smith’s last run as a starter also ended with an injury, although it was of the off-field variety when a punch from then teammate IK Enemkpali broke his jaw. This one is more conventional, but the result is the same when it comes to Smith’s spot on the offense.

UPDATE 2:42 p.m. ET: Smith has returned to the Jets sideline in the third quarter in street clothes, so it’s Fitzpatrick’s show for at least the rest of the day.
