Jaguars fire offensive coordinator Greg Olson

AP

Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is keeping his job despite the team’s miserable performance, but someone has to be the scapegoat.

That someone will be offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who was fired today, according to multiple reports.

The firing comes less than 24 hours after Bradley claimed there would be no changes to his coaching staff. It’s unclear what changed between Bradley’s comments yesterday and Olson’s firing today, but it’s possible that owner Shad Khan prevailed upon Bradley to make a change.

Olson is in his second season as the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator and has previously been an offensive coordinator of the Raiders, Buccaneers, Rams and Lions.

Today’s news means there have already been three offensive coordinators fired this season, with Olson joining former Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman and former Ravens offensive coordinator Marc Trestman in the unemployment line.

As an NFL OC – Greg Olson is an unmitigated DISGRACE

Did he take a page out of the Rex Ryan “Fall Guy” book?, Sorry, Gus, your pink slip is still coming on Jan. 2 if not before.

    He was horrible in OAK

This is now the 2nd Offensive Coordinator Fired under Gus..and he also fired his Defensive Coordinator.

In a little over 3 seasons. Think about that.

the problem is the head coach and that “looping” throwing motion by bortles

  6. whiteybulgersson says: Oct 29, 2016 2:09 PM

Well I guess back to the Panthers with Scam Newton he goes.

He also sucked in Oakland, glad to be rid of him. I hope I’m not saying the same thing in a couple years about Ken Norton…..smh..

    Running out of coordinators Gus.

  9. 26predator says: Oct 29, 2016 2:15 PM

How he was even still in the league after that awful period with Joey Harrington is a mystery.

I keep hearing what a great character guy Gus Bradley is. All I see is a guy who is quite adept at blaming other people for his failings. 3 coordinators fired? Hmm..

And don’t come at me with “Khan made him do it”. At this point, Bradley is Dead Coach Walking. If he had half of the character everyone in the media ascribes to him, he would have fallen on his sword and refused and accepted the consequences.

How many points did they give up to the titans ? 36 ?
    Yeah blame the OC

  12. thegreatgabbert says: Oct 29, 2016 2:21 PM

Greasehead Greg was the anonymous source for the “Blame Gabbert” slander from after the first time he was fired in Jax, back in 2012. He shouldn’t get another job in the league.

  13. razzlejag says: Oct 29, 2016 2:27 PM

It seemed like such a good idea at the time to fire OC Jedd Fisch who had the Jags rated as the #31 offense and hire Olson whose Raiders ranked #32 that year. SMH.

Wow, fire one guy and hire the only guy who was worse.

Too much talent on that team to be as bad as they are.

jags need some momentum before the move to london

  16. mikebel11 says: Oct 29, 2016 3:19 PM

Wow, with a track record of powerhouse offences like Oakland, Tampa and St. Louis in recent years, this guy was probably better suited for a head coaching position anyway!

  17. hanspard says: Oct 29, 2016 3:28 PM

Blaming Olsen for what happened in OAK is a joke. The guy had Terrelle Pryor as his QB, what was he supposed to do?

  18. imaduffer says: Oct 29, 2016 3:36 PM

Does it really matter who is the offensive coordinator for the Jags?

  19. mongo3401 says: Oct 29, 2016 3:49 PM

Greg Olsen = major fail. There fore he will be hired by another team come 2017. Just more recycling of bad coaches.

    Hop off the bus, Gus…

  21. QB Film Room says: Oct 29, 2016 6:08 PM

Clear As Day, Blake Bortles was a Shad Kahn/Dave Cladwell pick..Olson is simply the scapegoat by Gus to displace blame from Bortles to others..

  22. realtruthteller100 says: Oct 29, 2016 6:14 PM

good. now this bum can go back to playin tight end and stop moonlighting on his employer.

  23. z0inks says: Oct 29, 2016 6:15 PM

    I tried to warn Greg.

I told him, “Y’know, Greg….those plays that are designed so that the QB throws the ball five yards over the receiver’s head, or the plays where the RB runs into a brick wall at the line of scrimmage and goes down…those plays aren’t gonna work.”

    I tried to tell him.

Since he’s been fired, Greg O’s house has been put on the market. £5,000 and it can be yours. It’s Jacksonville folks. 3 cars at a stoplight is a traffic jam. No one cares.

  25. wingz101 says: Oct 29, 2016 6:36 PM

Him and Bortles = best garbage time combo in the NFL.

  26. dadsource says: Oct 29, 2016 6:39 PM

My pool guy could do a better job. Hey, I think they just hired him.

  27. bueller101 says: Oct 29, 2016 7:57 PM

Josh Freeman had two very good NFL years with the Bucs. Olson was OC for that.

  28. selldannysell says: Oct 29, 2016 8:00 PM

The people of Jacksonville deserve so much better.

  29. icebergsimpson says: Oct 29, 2016 8:05 PM

He was terrible in Tampa Bay

  30. vicnocal says: Oct 29, 2016 8:06 PM

Olson used to be a coach on the Bears (QBs coach I think) and he didn’t impress me much back then, either.
