A number of people have concerns with Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman’s play last night.

But so far, only the wife of Bills kicker Dan Carpenter has called him an animal and offered to castrate him.

Kaela Carpenter tweeted out a disturbing image of a tool called a bander, which is used to put a rubber band around the testicles of farm animals until they fall off. It was accompanied by the caption: “I know what we do on the farm when a male can’t control his own rage. #LuckyImNotThere #Sherman #ActLikeAnAnimalGetTreatedLike1"

Here’s the image, at least until she deletes it.

Even during an election season which has challenged our national civility, it’s the most distasteful thing I’ve seen in weeks. Calling a black man an animal and threatening to remove the male part of his anatomy is so blatantly racist and straight out of the Jim Crow era that it’s hard to imagine it will remain in her timeline for long.

It’s one thing to be angry about a football play. To dehumanize a football player should make Carpenter’s wife reassess things far beyond an unnecessary roughness penalty.
