NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hopes President-elect Donald Trump’s coarse comments during his campaign do not continue in his presidency.
Goodell was asked today at a New York Times conference if Trump’s comments about women made his job harder.
“Listen, it makes my job harder at home, too,” Goodell said. “I have twin daughters and a wife and so I have to explain that to them. So yes, on that front. Does it make it harder publicly? Listen, I think our country has to have more respect for one another and we have to unite. I saw some very positive signs of that yesterday with our current president, Hillary Clinton’s comments publicly and others coming together and saying, ‘We have to get together, we have to unite, we have to address some of the issues and work together.’ President-elect Trump is our president so let’s get behind him.”
Trump once indicated that if he had the authority, he’d fire Goodell as commissioner. That’s not a power the president of the United States has, but it appears that Goodell and Trump do not necessarily see eye-to-eye on a few things.
