Cameron Brate proves he belongs in the NFL

Undrafted out of Harvard, Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate has spent plenty of time on and off the team’s roster and practice squad over the past three years. Now entrenched, Brate still gets regular reminders that may be doesn’t belong.

Primarily from teammate Russell Shepard.

Appearing on Monday’s PFT Live, Brate explained that Shepard, who played at LSU, routinely tells Brate he’s not supposed to be in the NFL. And while Brate said the ribbing from Shepard is all in good fun, Brate uses the running joke as motivation.

Whatever he’s doing, it’s working. With five touchdown catches this year, Brate is becoming a fantasy-football darling and a fixture on the Tampa Bay offense.

How do you know he’s going to be “a future NFL team owner?”

Brate is a decent player but the Bears are absolutely lacking any sort of playmaking talent in their secondary. If they are drafting high enough to get Jabril Peppers (quite possible at this point) that should be a no brainer for them.
