Report: Gronkowski may have suffered punctured lung

Getty Images

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered what is believed to be a punctured lung during Sunday night’s loss to the Seahawks, NFL Network reported Monday.

Gronkowski finished the game. The report said he might only miss one game, though it’s probably too early to tell when he might be medically cleared.

The Patriots play at the 49ers this week, then are at the Jets on Nov. 27. They don’t play a team that currently has a winning record until their Dec. 12 Monday night game with the Ravens.

Gronkowski missed the season’s first two games due to a hamstring injury. He has 25 receptions on the season, 24 over the last five games.

Not as serious as it sounds. Lung punctures that are small heal very quickly.. he will feel like he has a cold for a week or two

Love Gronk but he reminds me of Vick back in the day, so reckless.

This man is a football player period stop …… you can see when people clean his clock he gets respect by that team no dancing over him bs !!! GREAT GREAT football player my GIANTS had one years ago just like him but not as athletic his name was Mark Bavaro !!

damn, this guy is tougher than adrian peterson’s son.

  6. insightfulcomments says: Nov 14, 2016 6:52 PM

I guess everybody crowing about how Martellus Bennett stiffarmed Earl Thomas didn’t take all of the pain of Thomas’s brutal legal hit on Gronk away.

  7. joenash72 says: Nov 14, 2016 6:53 PM

Offensive pass interference in that photo 😉

  8. minson15 says: Nov 14, 2016 6:53 PM

Crazy respect to Gronk for finishing the game if this is true. To make that catch up the sideline to put the Patriots 1st and goal at the end of the game with 1 functioning lung that’s impressive! But what a phenomenal hit by Thomas. Sorry Gronk got injured but perfectly executed hit to the target area.

  10. pdway says: Nov 14, 2016 6:59 PM

wishing him a speedy recovery. it’s the game, but that was an unusually direct, nasty shot he took.

nothing but respect for the guy from this hawks fan.

6’6″, 260 met 5’9″ 195 and came out on the wrong end. Thomas plays like a missile! And Gronk caught a break later when a pass was tipped or else Cam would have run through him as well, exacerbating the issue.

  12. blackqbwhiterb says: Nov 14, 2016 7:00 PM

    Like a legit punctured lung?!

Will Steve Young the others on the tv be gushing about his courage, falling over themselves? Remember when Romo had a punctured lung? Just sayin’ keep it real

  13. orangehigh says: Nov 14, 2016 7:00 PM

His lungs are a bit deflated.

  14. Rock n Skol says: Nov 14, 2016 7:02 PM

  15. jackedupboonie says: Nov 14, 2016 7:02 PM

Mad respect to his comments after the game. I think what shocked him was…..Thomas shoulder padded him high with a solid legal hit….instead of knee chopping him which could end a season in a heartbeat. The way Thomas bounced up and walked off quickly was his sly way of trying to shake off the blow he got from that punctured lung collision.

  23. ggreen657 says: Nov 14, 2016 7:11 PM

And he still made one of the most incredible clutch catches of the season after the hit. Don’t think anyone will be questioning Gronk’s toughness after this.

  27. filthymcnasty3 says: Nov 14, 2016 7:15 PM

You’re supposed to underinflate footballs – not Gronk’s lungs.

  28. folkcrusader says: Nov 14, 2016 7:17 PM

Either these athletes are gods, or there must be some different severities of punctured lungs. The only punctured lung I ever saw the guy was on the table in the ER, looked and sounded like he was dying. No way could he have walked more or less ran a pass route.

All the same, respect to Gronk and the Pats. Was a fantastic game.

Belichick agreed to throw last night’s game for ratings’ sake in exchange for Gronk getting to take time off so that the Packers can make a late-season comeback to save the TV broadcasters

But in the end Gronk will be back around the end of the regular season, ready for playoff prep

HOWEVER: I don’t think the TV broadcasters are ever getting their fans back…or their jobs

  33. arwiv says: Nov 14, 2016 7:25 PM

Receivers like Gronk are tough….that why I have so much respect for the ones who played when safeties were allowed to light them up after every catch over the middle. You want to see tough…now THEY were tough.

    ————————-
No, it ain’t. If you saw the play you’d know Gronk was (as usual) being grabbed by the defender, so he pushed the guy off and then made an exaggerated move to try and make the refs see that the defender had impeded him. But it didn’t work because if anything it just exaggerated his pushing the grabber off, and I’m not sure the ball was catchable amyway. Should have run it with Blount (oh the irony, SB 49).

I find it very funny how confident patriots fans are against a team that literally at one point in the super bowl had them at midfield with a ten pt lead in the 3RD , if we don’t go for Jermaine kearse lob on 3rd and 3, we could have been looking at 31-14 and that always seems to be ignored. lol tyrod, Matt Ryan , Bree’s all tore us up , what is brady gonna do more than that because our D will be ready with Kam back and it having troubles. I’m just tryna say that pats fans are delusional if they think our team will be killed, I do think it will be close , if you think blowout you don’t know Seahawks football.

Sounds like Earl Thomas ” let the air out of the Buffoon”…

  53. taintedsaints2009 says: Nov 14, 2016 9:50 PM

Tom Brady needs to not put this guy in situations that are getting him injured. Every time Gronk gets hurt it’s at the hands of a safety.

  54. aj66shanghai says: Nov 14, 2016 10:32 PM

Last throw to Gronk could have been called holding or PI on either guy and would have been legit. I think they made the right non-call though, let the game be decided by the play on the field.

It is too bad Gronk got injured again, when he’s missed so much time. He is one of the game’s biggest personalities and great for the image of the league because he never gets in trouble and always looks to be having fun.

Great game on Sunday night by both teams; I think they looked like the two best teams in football, though imagine Dallas and Oakland may have something to say about it.

As a pats fan, mad respect to seattles team, both these teams have a lot of respect for eachother and play the game the right way.

Im just glad it was earl thomas and not the cheap shot artist tj ward who hit him

  59. bassplucker says: Nov 14, 2016 11:24 PM

Much respect to both sides of that play. Earl Thomas for a hard (but legal) hit above the waist on a guy seemingly twice his size, and Gronk for manning up and giving proper respect afterwards with no bogus claims of a cheap shot or whining it should have been flagged.

In fact, while I have no love for either team, that game last night was a refreshing throwback. Great execution, tough but legal play on both sides, and it seemed the refs pretty much stayed out of things. In other words, the closest thing to NFL football as I remember it that I’ve seen in a long time.

Gronk played for he rest of the game, made maybe the sickest catch of the game and gave the Patriots a legit chance to tie it up. Then he said it was a good clean hit in his post game. Thomas hurt him but he didn’t stop him.

Best game of the year. Both teams played the game like it should be played for a full sixty minutes. Came down to the last play. Again. This time Seattle earned the win. Have to give it to them. On a short week in an away game in Foxboro they redeemed themselves for their SB loss. Pats gave as good as they got. No regrets from this Pats fan.

You know what’s hysterical? All your ifs and buts all lead to 28-24. I laugh every damn time I hear Seattle fans wallow in self pity for their team playing a 59 minute game while NE played 60. Enjoy this win, it was well earned. But you got to let that failure in the SB go. Try being 18-0 and losing to a 9-7 team. Now THAT’s pain! 🙂
