Andrew Luck in concussion protocol

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is in the league’s concussion protocol, meaning he’s a long shot to play on Thanksgiving against the Steelers.

Although Luck finished yesterday’s win over the Titans and did not appear to have any injury issues afterward, Colts coach Chuck Pagano announced today that Luck said after the game that he wasn’t feeling well, and he is in the concussion protocol now.

Being in the concussion protocol doesn’t always mean a player actually has a concussion. It means at first that the player is being evaluated for a concussion, and then that a player has several stages to go through before he can be cleared to play.

Given that the Colts will be back on the field Thursday, it seems very unlikely that Luck could be cleared in time to play. Pagano said backup quarterback Scott Tolzien will prepare to be the starter this week.
