Bill O’Brien on Brock Osweiler: Focus is on correcting mistakes

After losing to the Chargers, Texans coach Bill O'Brien answers questions from the media regarding the possibility of benching QB Brock Osweiler. O'Brien responds by saying we're going to fix mistakes.

The Texans offense sputtered in Sunday’s 21-13 loss to the Chargers as quarterback Brock Osweiler threw three interceptions in another ineffective outing in a season studded with them.

Osweiler finished the day 22-of-37 for 246 yards in what may have been the least impressive of his first 11 starts in Houston. That failure to meet the expectations that came with the contract Osweiler signed as a free agent in the offseason led to questions for coach Bill O’Brien about whether the team would consider starting Tom Savage instead of Osweiler in the coming weeks.

O’Brien said that the team was going to focus on correcting mistakes as they move on to their Week 13 game against the Packers. O’Brien didn’t specify if Osweiler’s presence in the lineup could be considered one of those mistakes and it seems unlikely that the Texans would pull a quarterback switch at this point.

Osweiler said in his own press conference that he thought the rest of the team played well and that the loss belonged on his shoulders. He also said he didn’t think there was one particular flaw behind his 13 interceptions this season.
“Every interception really has a different story to it, unfortunately it’s happening too often,” Osweiler said.

Speculation about starting Savage aren’t the kind of stories that the Texans wanted to hear when they signed Osweiler, but days like Sunday make it hard to avoid.
