Another week, another cornerback lashes out at Steve Smith

When the Ravens met the Bengals in September 2015, Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith had a big game on the field and a lot to say on the sideline about members of the Cincinnati secondary.

Cameras caught Smith calling Bengals cornerbacks Dre Kirkpatrick and Adam Jones “trash” during a game the Bengals won 28-24. The Ravens were more successful on Sunday, although Smith had a quiet game in the 19-14 victory. After the game was over, Kirkpatrick referenced last year’s comments and this year’s four catches for 20 yards while discussing Smith.

“Eighty-nine said I was trash,” Kirkpatrick said, via the Baltimore Sun. “If I’m trash, what did he do today? [Expletive], clean that up. Who was trash today? He said what he had to say last year. I just wanted to let him know, am I trash now? Eighty-nine looked to trash me, but he didn’t do anything.”

Kirkpatrick’s comments come after Cowboys cornerback Anthony Brown said he had no respect for Smith after last week’s game. Smith, who heard the same from Jaguars rookie Jalen Ramsey earlier this season, said he could “give a flying f---" about what Brown had to say.

Smith didn’t talk to reporters after Sunday’s win, which meant he didn’t share his thoughts about linebacker Vontaze Burfict either. Smith was penalized for unnecessary roughness after headbutting Burfict, who embellished the contact like a European soccer player, in the chest in the first quarter.
