The Vikings announced that coach Mike Zimmer was going in for emergency eye surgery last night, which obviously puts his status for tonight’s game against the Cowboys in doubt.
He was hoping, however, to get through the week.
According to Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the 60-year-old Zimmer was scheduled to have the surgery done Friday after his team played on Thursday Night Football.
Zimmer had an initial surgery to repair a detached retina on Nov. 1, saying the next day: “They said if you don’t take care of those things that you have a possibility of going blind.”
He had another procedure on Nov. 8, saying he had “another thing done” and was “OK.”
The Vikings have two former head coaches on staff (Pat Shurmur and Tony Sparano), and General Manager Rick Spielman said their contingency plan was in place.
He also said he’d update reporters on Zimmer’s status later this morning. Here’s hoping he has good news to share.
