Lawrence Timmons on Tyreek Hill: Have to stop him before he starts

Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons says the key to stopping the speedy Chiefs playmaker Tyreek Hill is never to let him reach top speed.

Timmons said this morning on PFT Live that the Steelers have discussed the importance of hitting Hill immediately when he gets the ball, before he has a chance to get into the open field and get up to full speed.

“It’s real important for that guy not to get in space,” Timmons said. “We have to stop him before he gets going. He’s the fastest man on the field. The guy’s got 4.2 speed. That’s a lot to handle in itself right there, so we’ve got to play team defense and keep a cap on him.”

Timmons and his teammates are hoping to gang tackle Hill with good, clean hits.

“We have to of course play clean, but we have to rally to the ball, have three or four guys at the ball, and just play with that attitude the whole game,” Timmons said.

Whether the Steelers can do that may determine whether they get to the AFC Championship Game.

It should be fun to watch defenders try to deal with Antonio Brown and Tyreek Hill when a wintery mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected throughout the game.
    .

  2. Spend too much time/effort on Hill and you’re gonna get beat by Kelce and/or Maclin. It’s going to be fun to watch how the Steelers D tries to handle all of them.

    Go Chiefs!!

  3. Maybe a Lawrence Timmons 5 years fresh out of Florida State with that former version’s speed & agility, but not with current defensive roster. Congratulations Pittsburgh, you made Miami’s offense look like, well, Miami. Different story this week

$20 says Hill goes out of the game due to a blow to the head…. it’s just how the Steelers roll.

    **************************************************************************************

Great comment coming from a member of a fanbase that blindly defends everything that Vontaze Burfict’s done.

The hypocrisy of this post coming from a BENGALS fan is epic

  6. Hey Bungles fans – your season’s over. Done. There’s a fork stuck in it and you. You’re irrelevant. And your hatred for the Steelers act is old and tired.

Black-and-Gold’s season goes on while most of the Bungles fans are trying to figure out why they can’t win a big game. Ever.

  7. I have been a serious “Life Long Chiefs Fan” but I see this game as very tough to win. The Steelers are healthy and have the weapons to control this game. It probably will be close but big Ben has Antonio Brown and L. Bell. Need I say more……. Steelers 24-13.

  8. I heard from a friend that Cincinnati area doctors and clinics are now providing salt tablets free of charge on a walk-up basis.

The hope is to offset the effects of all of the salt depletion from the fanbase’s constant crying.

They had hoped it would get better after the season ended, but it appears to be getting far worse.

Due to this, city officials no longer believe this epidemic is directly tied to the Bengal’s failures. They now believe that it’s due to an obsession with another NFL team but are having a hard time determining which team. They should visit the PFT comment section for their answer.

  9. Hey, one (1) Bengals fan said something, and the Steelers posters get all bent out of shape. You guys are so over-sensitive.

  10. KC is a solid all around team but its hilarious when you try to make them out to be an explosive offensive team. News flash Alex Smith and that offense doesn’t strike fear in anyone !!!

  11. Hill better watch out. Sounds like the head hunters will be on the prowl!!!

Don’t worry though Yinzers, you will upset KC so much with yer dirty play that KC will probably get flagged on the same play offsetting yer cheap shot.

Bent out of shape, or having fun? You guys are so wound up you can’t tell the difference.

It’s kind of like you’re miserable or something.

  13. The first KC/Pitt game was a long time ago, indeed…and while Pitt may have improved, KC has improved immensely since then:

    Hill has broken out
Kelce has turned into a MONSTER
Maclin has overcome the loss of his best friend and a groin injury
We now have a legit #2 CB in Mitchell
    Chris Jones has broken out

KC was 2-2 before/including the pitt game. After? 10-2. And that’s playing the fourth toughest schedule in the league? Pitt’s schedule? Not so much…

This WILL be a tough game but I see KC doing juuuust enough, at home and with extra time to prepare. KC wins 27-24.

  14. Did Timmons mention grabbing his face mask? Because that’s the key to every one of his dirty tackles.

  15. Andy Reid is clearly a better coach and will have his team better prepared. Miami was a pushover with a backup QB and paper secondary last week and they still moved the ball. With all the experience that Ben has including post season none of it seems to matter, he chokes especially on the road and will throw a game changing/ending pic and/or go out with an injury. Tomlin will get lost, confused and petrified and Haley will call the most ridiculous trick/gadget/predictable plays at the most inopportune times. Hill, Maclin and Kelce will torch the defense. Sad but true.

  16. Hill Stateline the first game. 1 rush -2 yards,r catches 39 yards.Kelce Tomlin took him out of the game as well as the tight end. He will do it again Saturday. They both will be no shows just like the first game.

  17. Hill Stateline the first game. 1 rush -2 yards,4 catches 39 yards. Tomlin took him out of the game as well as the tight end. He will do it again Saturday. They both will be no shows just like the first game.

  18. This game should be a good one. I expect the Steelers to come out with a heavy dose of Bell and the running game then mixing it up with short passes. Tbh the Chiefs couldn’t stop our running game the first time we played. The Chiefs running defense is not ranked very high. I think the Steelers pull this one out 21-14. Go Steelers
