Tom Brady wins his fourth Super Bowl MVP award

Getty Images

After an incredible 25-point comeback and a Super Bowl-record 466 passing yards, Tom Brady has become the first player ever to win four Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards.

Brady was the obvious choice for Super Bowl LI MVP after the Patriots beat the Falcons 34-28. Brady had previously won the MVP award at Super Bowl XXXVI, Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XLIX.

Joe Montana is the only other player with three Super Bowl MVPs.

It was a game that saw Brady set Super Bowl records for completions and yards and extend his career Super Bowl records in every major statistical category including touchdowns, completions, attempts and passing yards, as well as games played.

Brady is the first quarterback to win five Super Bowls as a starter, and joins Charles Haley as the only players at any position with five Super Bowl rings.

In an incredible career, Tom Brady has just had his crowning achievement.

You know what’s crazy the Patriots came out a different team the first defensive series of the second half and the Falcons sort of settled down where it looked like it was gonna be ok but the Patriots just did not quit

Pats won fair and square, but I don’t think anyone wanted to see that PI call late in overtime to set up a team on the 2 yard line. Refs got to let players play in those situations and that would not have been called a lot of the time.

Hey how’s that “humiliated Roger handing the trophy to Brady” thing looking?

Meh, I said before the AFC Championship the New England defense was a mirage. No top QBs faced all year. The only difference between Roethlisberger and Ryan is Ryan’s receivers are holding on to the ball

    ——-
That ‘handing the trophy to Brady’ thing is looking pretty good.

Oh and the league MVP just got stopped by the mirage too.

That game seemed so rigged. How does Ryan continue to take needless sacks that in the end his final chosen sack, rather than throwing the ball away, took Atlanta out of scoring position for a field goal to go up by 11 with time running out? Every QB knows to throw the ball away and not take a sack in a crucial situation like that. The game had to be rigged, or Ryan just is a total imbecile with no self awareness. No way Aaron Rodgers takes that final sack. No way.

  42. nyneal says: Feb 5, 2017 10:44 PM

Hey Falcons fans — your MVP got MVP’d. Many of you Falcons fans were talking smack after the win over the Packers and I bet you were popping champagne bottles after that 1st half, too. You thought there was no stopping the Falcons.
But you saw your MVP QB spit the bit in that 2nd half, especially when he took the sack to move them out of FG range when a Fg probably gives them the win. Great QB’s don’t do that. But he did it.
Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots showed the character and the heart of champions and that is because they have the best coach in the business who instills a belief in themselves and their system.
It was an incredible win by an incredible franchise and all the haters will be blaming the officials, the weather, and using every other excuse they can whine about for the Falcons blowing the biggest lead in Super Bowl history.
But it doesn’t matter what they or anyone else says. The Patriots and Tom Brady are the World Champions again.
Hats off to them and their great organization.

In the future, a best-selling movie will FOREVER PRESERVE the disgraceful actions of the current NFL office and forever preserve the excellence of this Great Football Team.

Since the end of the first half of the game in question: Brady 81 Touchdowns, 15 Interceptions; two AFC Championship WINS; 2 Super Bowl WINS; and helped his team win enough games to play in the 2016 AFC Championship game.

New England Patriots and Tom Brady:

PRIOR to DEFLATEGATE: 5 AFC Championships WINS and 3 Super Bowl WINS.

AFTER DEFLATEGATE (3 seasons): 2 AFC Championships WINS and 2 Super Bowl WINS.

    DEFLATEGATE FACTS:
During 19 January, 2015 (day after AFC Championship Game), an official letter sent to Mr. Kraft from the senior vice president of NFL operations (David Gardi) informed the Patriots that an investigation will be conducted.

    1. FACT: On page two, the letter states the following: … “each of the Colts’ game balls that was inspected met the requirements set forth.”

That statement turns out to be totally not true. Page 8, of the Wells report confirms that 3 of the 4 Colts’ footballs were in fact deflated. Who from the NFL office directed to stop testing the Colts’ remaining 8 footballs???

    2. FACT: The NFL has finally admitted that they DID NOT know anything about the Ideal Gas Law (IGL). That admission is incredible!

    3. FACT: Brady was found guilty by the NFL office based on “ASSUMPTIONS AND DATA THAT IS UNCERTAIN” (quote Wells Report).

    4. What would you do if someone in your family was accused and deemed guilty based on “ASSUMPTIONS AND DATA THAT IS UNCERTAIN” (quote Wells Report)? Could you accept that???

    5. Why wouldn’t Brady turn his cell phone in? …… Would you provide your cell phone to folks that you know are not truthful (19 Jan. letter, etc.)???

    6. FACT: NFL announces creation of PSI rules hours before leaking story that Brady “destroys” phone. Thus, the public quickly forgets the NFL admits they had no PSI rules or knowledge of the Ideal Gas Law.

    7. This is AMERICA and King Roger and Troy Vincent are NOT bigger than our great Country!

In the future, a best-selling movie will FOREVER PRESERVE the disgraceful actions of the current NFL office and forever preserve the excellence of this Great Football Team.

Hat’s off to NE. You made a great comeback.

Atlanta, your MVP failed you by taking sacks to ice the game by going up 11 on a field goal. That’s the story of the game for me.

  94. djvh2 says: Feb 5, 2017 11:23 PM

I wanted NE because of contests I could/did win, so it was exciting. I guess Brady is as good of a choice as any for MVP, although James White did have some huge efforts to get in the end zone, both TDs and conversions.
Brady had 62 attempts, only about 7.5 per attempt. He threw a lot and did fairly well, but certainly some other QBs would’ve done as well or better with that kind of protection.

Now we get to listen to GOAT talk for 6 months. Yay.

The cowardly liberals (Failio, Micheal David Jellyfish, and Darrin “the lemming” Gannt) are all in their safe-space tonight! The Patriots just helped Trump MAKE AMERICA GREAT(ER) AGAIN!

Tonight was a WIN for the USA all around

    —-

You apparently don’t know the first thing about New England. Hint: Trump didn’t win a single state up there.

  100. darkgoody says: Feb 5, 2017 11:40 PM

Lol. That’s ridiculous. Count the number of passes he threw in the dirt or into the hands of an atl defender. Mediocre game at best.

  101. Norseman says: Feb 5, 2017 11:55 PM

Most give Brady the credit, but this was really a team win for the Patriots and their coaching staff. People will look at Brady’s passing yards, but that comes when you’re down 25 points and pass all the time and the defense is playing prevent.

And the last drive of the 4th quarter, 3 of Brady’s throws were INTs waiting to happen. And the incomplete pass prior to the game winning play could have been another INT.

This wasn’t his best game, but he got it done in the end.

Be that as it may, down 25, you have to give the Patriots team the credit for hanging in their and continuing to play when everyone thought they were done.

They were helped by a young Atlanta team that faltered rather than finished, and also some poor coaching adjustments (or lack thereof) from the Falcons staff. A few mistakes:

    1. Not playing for TOP in the second half. The Falcons only had the ball for 23 minutes the whole game- that hurt their defense late.

    2. Not blitzing more in the second half. Everyone knew the Pats had to come out throwing early and often, and blitzing would have slowed Brady down a lot more.

    3. Position awareness and play-calling. Ryan took a sack that was avoidable had he thrown it away, but didn’t. Play-calling there was suspect.

Brady had 62 attempts, only about 7.5 per attempt. He threw a lot and did fairly well, but certainly some other QBs would’ve done as well or better with that kind of protection.
    ————————————————————
Most other QBs would have given up down 28-3. But Brady is different.

No way.

I love how all these Pats trolls rather spend the time to troll strangers on a fantasy football forum then enjoy a victory with there family and friends. What a miserable life you fans must have? Sounds like you been spending too much time with seattle trolls. I also find it funny that most of the pats fans who “so called loyal fans” probably fell asleep at halftime and had to be woken up by real football fans. I also find it equally amazing most of these trolls on here never watched a down of football before 2000 and to think Brady was ever better then Montana in the big game are complete ignorant fools. Montana was flawless in the big game. no int’s 4-0 perfect. Walk in traffic and educate yourself trolls! Worst choke job in sports history! What was your argument if Atlanta didn’t choke? LOSERS!

This guy deserved MVP about as much as Flacco did. Seriously, Tommy got away with more goofs than you can count. The Edelman freak catch was actually just a pick Atlanta decided to toss back, and somebody tell me how that lollipop fade Brady threw in overtime wasn’t intercepted in the end zone. Only a complete second-half offensive meltdown by Atlanta kept Tommy even in it, but hey he’s the GOAT right?

Nah, everybody knows the real MVP was the moron who decided to call two passes instead of two runs and then kicking the field goal to ice the game. Of course, he works for Atlanta so I guess he’s not eligible. But he should be.

I’ve been watching football for most of my life, and in all my 63 years of life I’ve never seen a better, more exciting game than this one. Tom Brady’s performance easily ranks as the greatest performance in New England sports history, beating out Bobby Orr’s goal in the 1970 Stanley Cup finals, or David Ortiz’s performance in the 2013 World Series. I slept the sleep of champions, and this morning I’m still in shock at what I witnessed. Was it real? The Pats were dead in the water, and Brady literally willed them to win. There is no longer and doubt, Brady IS the Greatest Of All Time.

One more thing. This is for you haters – I enjoyed drinking your tears, so delicious. Keep on hating, trolls, your posts are so hilarious!
