Book, movie on Tom Brady, Super Bowl LI coming

HOUSTON, TX - FEBRUARY 05: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots celebrates with the Vince Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl 51 at NRG Stadium on February 5, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Malcolm Butler isn’t the only Patriot who’ll be getting his day at the box office.

Via Deadline, a book and a feature film are both in the works regarding Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The projects will focus on the stranger-than-fiction come-from-behind win in Super Bowl LI, and they will include the #DeflateGate saga.

The writers for the book/film combo, Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, and Dave Wedge, already have reportedly “cultivated several sources” within the team to provide information about what happened behind the scenes.

It’s unknown when the book and film will be available for purchase. Obviously, the sooner the better, because Brady seems determined to keep adding chapters to one of the best stories in the history of American sport.

I am a diehard lifelong pats fan who has been to over 30 games… and even I think this is ridiculous. You know it will be cheesy as hell and it sounds like Brady himself has nothing to do with it.

  3. piratefreedom says: Feb 15, 2017 11:22 PM

I’m very happy I’ve been able to watch Tom Brady on the football field all these wonderful years but what a boring guy off it.

The only useful role these projects will play in entertaining me is that they will drive the irrational Brady haters further into the spittle flecked madness that drives them to be such amusing clowns on the internet.

Meanwhile no one will bother to make a movie about Pedton or Erin because there is nothing inspiring about them and their fake fonts.

The injustice of deflategate alone warrants a book.

And then you have the amazing story of a man who has defied the odds his entire career, despite a league who tried to take him down.

The league that he represents so well.

Will the book and movie cover Brady’s intentional destruction of his phone during an NFL investigation? How was this man not suspended for knowingly destroying evidence under investigation? Here’s how:

That’s the way the owners want it. And you people do know that the NFL Commissioner does pretty much as he’s told by his owners…the 31 crooked billionaires.

And I like Tom Brady as football player. As a Trump Bud he’s a jerk. But Brady is great QB.

The producers will have a few of challenges selling and making the movie:
1-Too many people hate Brady and the Patriots.
2-Handling the deflation business: Evil doer with a needle or demonstration of the Ideal Gas Law?
3-A comeback from 25 pts in the Super Bowl? No one is going to believe that.
4-Mark Wahlberg is too short to play Brady.

SMH as you know very well, Wells had already repeatedly examined the phone, told Brady he was done with it and made it clear in his report that Brady cooperated fully with every request. The phone was only destroyed after that point.

Why would the book and movie portray something that never happened?

The phone in question was only wiped by an assistant after Wells told Brady and the Player’s union that he did not need it and would not even ask for it.

The phone was never “evidence” because neither Wells nor the league had any right to ask for a player’s personal phone. Wells only asked for, and received, a list of all text messages from the time frame in question. The league decided not to follow up on any of these.

And since all of the court proceedings were about whether the commissioner and the league acted properly in suspending him, the phone would not have been admissible even in a court of law. It was not evidence.

Will the book and movie cover Brady’s intentional destruction of his phone during an NFL investigation? How was this man not suspended for knowingly destroying evidence under investigation? Here’s how:
    ============================

Actually, he was suspended for his not providing his phone. That is what Goodell ruled during Brady’s appeal hearing, even though that is a serious abuse of the labor appeals process. Now any arbiter/judge can change the basis upon which the original judgement was rendered. Never mind the fact that the phone was NEVER evidence. The NFL had no right to the phone. How many times must this be stated. Funny how Farve was just fined $50,000 for not turning over his phone when he was accused of sexually harassing a woman by texting inappropriate photos using that very phone. Where’s all the hate and vitriol over that.

A football movie that only appeals to less than 1/32 of all people who watch football? What could go wrong.

People keep thinking these NFL movies will fly, but when you name a team it loses a lot of appeal. Thats why most successful football movies and shows are about college or HS teams. Even if they are based on real teams, the names arent recognizable enough that the fans hatred of rivals gets triggered. The problem I have with it is that it will immortalize Tom’s fantastic response to Deflategate, while completely underselling all the other unfathomable aspects of his career. Honestly, Tom’s story is the only athlete’s story I’ve ever known that actually justifies a sequel.

Tom’s first movie should be about being drafted in the 6th round at #199, then going on to take over for Bledsoe and winning the Super Bowl. It could even show how he went on to win two more in the next three years. It’s an unbelievable story.

Then the sequel comes out. This one’s about how the previously mind-numbing story wasn’t yet over. Tom leads the team to the Championship over Seattle, with Butler’s incredible interception to seal the deal, then devolves into the drama of Deflategate. Then, in movie #1 fashion, the legendary Brady leads his team back to the promised land again with the greatest, most unbelievable, only-in-the-movies comeback of all time in Superbowl LI.

Anything less than ALL of that underrepresents the unfathomable story of Tom Brady. I’m sorry, but a single movie about winning the Superbowl after Deflategate simply does Tom an injustice. Kids 30 years from now should know the whole story, not just this one part of it.

“A football movie that only appeals to less than 1/32 of all people who watch football? What could go wrong.”

Per the latest (2010) census, the population of the 6 New England States that form the Patriots fan base totals up to over 14.4 million. That makes the region’s total population greater than all but 4 US states (FL, NY, TX and CA) all of which have more than one NFL team.

    FL pop = 18.8M / 2 teams = 9.4M / team
    NY pop = 19.4M / 3 teams = 6.5M / team
    TX pop = 25.1M / 2 teams = 12.6M / team
    CA pop = 33.9M / 3 teams = 11.3M / team

A part of the southwest CT area has some NY (Giants and Jets) fans, but a part of the eastern Upstate NY area has some NE fans.

The New England fan base is not insignificant.

How do you people function in the real world?

All NFL games are 60 minutes, watched by millions, they record them, and then, as you may or may not have noticed, the whole “winner/loser” thing is determined. Do you possess a different set of rules in your head?

Champions play to the whistle better that the other guys.

If you want to call Brady “8th best” or whatever–enjoy. (BTW, that’s oddly specific of you), but you are definitely one of those Shooter McGavin running-down-the-fairway screaming nut jobs who stole Happy Gilmore’s Tour Championship jacket type of guys.

That the part you can’t be helped with.

Ladies and gentleman I give you the classic troll/hater’s mind at work. He states as fact that Brady lost games when the entire world outside of the warped minds of a few can easily look into official records of wins and losses to see that indeed all his examples were wins. Games last 60 minutes, sometimes more. No team wins or loses a game 59 minutes into it. It’s over when the clock strikes zero. If you think you have the game won before that you’re wrong. The truly great ones never give up. The others use the mentality of this troll believing they won when they didn’t. A win is a win and a loss is a loss, period.

Funny, every record I have ever seen shows the Patriots won the Tuck Rule game, SB 49, and SB 51. How is what your are saying possibly a fact?

Losers fail to mention Brady carved up the Seattle defense in the 4th quarter and Seattle was only at the goal line because of a circus-luck catch from Kerse, but NE is the lucky one?

The Pats scored 25 points in the 4th quarter. That’s because of Brady stepping up when it counted, not because the Falcons didn’t run the ball. Get a grip.

By your logic, the Pats must have won the two SBs against the Giants right? Those two “lucky” catches from Tyree and Manningham were the result of pure ineptness, right?

” How was this man not suspended for knowingly destroying evidence under investigation?”

Where do you think he was the first four games of the season?

You may not be familiar with the law. But just because the NFL says they want a phone doesn’t mean they have the right to demand it. They didn’t even try to go to court to get Brady compelled to turn it over. In the real world, you don’t get to search a person’s private records just because you think there may be evidence of guilt in them (evidence which, by the way, wasn’t found anywhere else).

The phone demand was never more than a fishing expedition. Had the police tried to get a warrant for the phone with the evidence the NFL had, they would have failed.

On top of all of that, Ted Wells said he didn’t need the phone!

How that fact escapes you is beyond my comprehension. But of course, Brady’s actual suspension appears to not have been noticed, either.

Please. Pay attention. Brady has been offered the same (if not more) opportunity to hawk all this crap and he won’t because he doesn’t use or believe in most of them. That part doesn;t matter to Peyton at all–just as long as the check clears. This has been covered quite a bit. You think he’s a “fraud” because he crushes your team constantly. That’s not what everyone else thinks although it would make you feel better if they did. You and a bunch of your revisionist history cohorts need this to justify all the losses.

This movie will FOREVER PRESERVE the disgraceful actions of the current NFL office and forever preserve the excellence of this Great Football Team.

Since the end of the first half of the game in question: Brady 81 Touchdowns, 15 Interceptions; 2 AFC Championship WINS; 2 Super Bowl WINS; and helped his team win enough games to play in the 2016 AFC Championship game.

New England Patriots and Tom Brady:

PRIOR to DEFLATEGATE: 5 AFC Championships WINS and 3 Super Bowl WINS.

AFTER DEFLATEGATE (3 seasons): 2 AFC Championships WINS and 2 Super Bowl WINS.

    DEFLATEGATE FACTS:
During 19 January, 2015 (day after AFC Championship Game), an official letter sent to Mr. Kraft from the senior vice president of NFL operations (David Gardi) informed the Patriots that an investigation will be conducted.

    1. FACT: On page two, the letter states the following: … “each of the Colts’ game balls that was inspected met the requirements set forth.”

That statement turns out to be totally not true. Page 8, of the Wells report confirms that 3 of the 4 Colts’ footballs were in fact deflated. Who from the NFL office directed to stop testing the Colts’ remaining 8 footballs???

    2. FACT: The NFL has finally admitted that they DID NOT know anything about the Ideal Gas Law (IGL). That admission is incredible!

    3. FACT: Brady was found guilty by the NFL office based on “ASSUMPTIONS AND DATA THAT IS UNCERTAIN” (quote Wells Report).

    4. What would you do if someone in your family was accused and deemed guilty based on “ASSUMPTIONS AND DATA THAT IS UNCERTAIN” (quote Wells Report)? Could you accept that???

    5. Why wouldn’t Brady turn his cell phone in? …… Would you provide your cell phone to folks that you know are not truthful (19 Jan. letter, etc.)???

    6. FACT: NFL announces creation of PSI rules just hours before leaking story that Brady “destroys” phone. Thus, the public quickly forgets the NFL admits they had no PSI rules or knowledge of the Ideal Gas Law.

This is AMERICA and King Roger and Troy Vincent are NOT bigger than our great Country!

A movie would be cheesy as hell. Why not just a feature length well edited documentary that can sourced from an abundance of materials on and off the field footage and insightful interviews. Just the highlight reels will be off the chart.

All of it will give us a better portrait of the athlete as an individual and a deceptively complex figure in the history of American sports . It need not to be sentimental or cheerleading, it would more edifying if just present it honestly and be multifaceted, culturally and sociologically and psychologically, and let the viewers decide on the legacy of this singular athlete in American sports. It is through this way the film will stand the test of time, just like Brady!

I really think Brady is attempting to mount a second act of his storied career. The first act starts from 2001 to 2008 that includes first Super Bowl to his 2008 knee injury. He garners 3 rings and a disappointment at the end of 2007 season. The second act starts from 2009 to 2016, a period of redemption that involves another disappointing SB loss to his last two triumphs. If, a big if, he wins another ring, it will match Michael Jordan’s two act career of double 3-peats before and after his first retirement. Think about it, if the beginning of his career netted him 3 rings in 4 years, the twilight of his career will get another period of 3 rings in 4 years, with 2 disappointments thrown in between! A Hollywood script like that will be laughed out of production meeting! And yet, here we are: life is even more interesting and invigorating. Such documentary film needs to be made for the ages.
