Getty ImagesThe Bengals are the only NFL team Rey Maualuga has known.
That is about to change.
Cincinnati announced Saturday it has parted with its long-time linebacker. Maualuga, a second-round pick in 2009 out of USC, has spent his entire eight-year career with the club.
There were clues, however, there wouldn’t be a ninth.
The Bengals added former Cardinals linebacker Kevin Minter a week ago. Maualuga, 30, is coming off a season in which he started a career-low six of 14 games played. In all, he started 104 of 114 games for Cincinnati, racking up 580 tackles, four sacks, seven interceptions and six forced fumbles.
Maualuga also was entering the final season of a three-year contract. It featured a $3.15 million base salary and $300,000 workout bonus due in 2017.
Perfect for what the Lions need if he can pass a phsy and appears healthy
Good luck, Taz!
The Bengals are thrilled to occupy the league’s Mediocre Middle and know they can’t beat the Steelers, so they might as well save a little money while they’re at it.
The Bengals just got smarter as a team plus penalties should go down. They may miss the dirty play however.
My how the once “Mighty” continue to fall. Big Name Players that continue to look for new homes abound. Adrian Petersen, Jammal Charles, Tony Romo, Kap, and many others too numerous to mention.
and Belichick gets ready to pounce……
He’s on his way to Miami no doubt.
We’ll soon find out what Mike Zimmer thinks of him.
RM just dropped what he was doing.
Great move – one of the dirtiest players to ever play the game and really untalented as a football player.
Hello Rey, Bill Belichik on line one. What’s your ring size again?
What an up and down career. When he “fell” to the 2nd round, the Bengals (and the fans) thought we were getting a future star. He never blossomed into that. He was a solid 2 down run thumper for 6-7 years. A total liability on pass downs, which he came off the field for over the last several years. He rarely wore the headset, that responsibility fell to Dhani Jones, then Burfict (who plays WLB). He had a couple off field incidents early…punching a bartender, and running into parking meters drunk. He’s been clean off the field for a good while now though. Overall, I’ll have positive memories of him, but he wasn’t anything special, and now he’s looking washed up and overweight.
Always liked him. Was bot a dirty player. I think someone was confused. But was always overweight. If henlined you up he would hurt you but too many missed tackles and couldn’t get off blocks. Smart move
Maualuga wasn’t dirty. Not many Bengals players are, outside of Burfict. The Bengals aren’t like the Steelers, where dirty play is systematically taught to all players. The Bengals have one enforcer and a bunch of dudes that loath the Steelers.
If he was 38 and crippled turd nation would sign him, turd Thompson loves old leftovers!
Good move for the Bengals. Our defense looked old and slow last year. Personally, I would cut Pacman and Michael Johnson as well. Still need Offensive line help!
4 sacks in 8 years?
Wow!
Not many Bengals players are, outside of Burfict.

Pacman Jones?
Not much funnier than Bengal haters trying to be clever and snarky and don’t have a clue on who they are even talking about. There’s, what? Three comments on here at least that are confusing Ray with vontaze Burfict.
the epitome of average
Dazzling career stats
He’ll make a fine tour boat captain in Honolulu
Reuben Foster just was slotting in as the no 9 pick in the draft. Bengals are going young and fast on defense.
I’ll miss Rey he was pretty solid on running downs just never seemed to keep up in the passing game. Not real sure why people keep calling him dirty (maybe thinking of Burfict) I wish him luck and thanks.
The Pats should pick this guy up immediately!
Wish we had more cap space to go after him. Good player non stop motor, liability in coverage though would like to see him anywhere but the afc south. Afc south will not be the cellar dweller this yr mark my words
Thanks for all you did Rey.
I’m thinking he may be a better fit in a 3-4 Defense now on the inside.
He isn’t a pass rusher but he is strong up the middle.
Solid two down MLB who brought the wood. Marvin stuck with him and he played well for a period of time. Never athletic enough in coverage but was still a solid player. I wish him well.
Jerk move to cut a 8 year vet like Rey this late into free agency. They should have cut pacman for his crap play on and off the field. I might be done rooting for this team.
9ers go get him for some 2 down thumper action! Lynch do it!
I’m sure teams will be lining up to sign a mediocre player with nothing but playoff losses to his name.

What exactly are the Bengals and Steelers competing over? Bragging rights?
Good luck Ray. I was always a fan but the truth is he really hasn’t brought the wood the last couple of years. Most fans would have been happy to see him released in 2014.
Hate that Marvin is coming back again. It’s beyond old and pretty much all that matters as far as this team is concerned.
AlsoRey likes to drink and is overweight because of it.
They’llk replace thius turd with another turd, it’s the Bungals way.
If his cap # is a mere $3M, the Bengals must think he is done or overweight because that’s not a lot of money for a starter at any position much less LB.

That’s funny. Stoolers are one of the dirtiest playing teams in the NFL. From the coach on down.
fascinated to see some of the reactions – Bengals fans largely think this move is a year late. Interesting to see fans of some teams clamoring to add him. A decent situational backup to add for a little more than the vet minimum at this point. Was decent but didn’t live up to the expectations of Bengals fans ultimately.
Chad Greenway replacement ~ Zimmer already knows what he can do~~~
stud at USC mediocre in Cincy
