Bills hire Brian Gaine as V.P. of player personnel

After the Bills fired Doug Whaley as their General Manager, they interviewed Brian Gaine for the job.

Gaine didn’t get the job, which went to Brandon Beane, but the interview with the team appears to have gone well. The Bills announced on Monday that Gaine will join the front office as the vice president of player personnel. Gaine was the director of player personnel with the Texans before taking the new job in Buffalo.

“It’s generally a pretty lateral move, but Brian was excited about building this and starting this,” Beane said, via the team’s website. “I think partnering with me and [assistant G.M. Joe Schoen] was attractive. I know Brian and who he is to the core and trust that he’s going to be a big time asset.”

Gaine and Schoen worked together when both men were part of the Dolphins staff and Gaine has also worked for the Jets, so the Bills are his third stop in the AFC East.

  1. Doesn’t this all seem backwards? Don’t you usually start at the top, and hire downward from there, vs starting with the coach and hiring upwards? Bills gonna Bill tho I guess

  2. “I think partnering with me and [assistant G.M. Joe Schoen] was attractive.”

Not too full of yourself, are you Brandon?

Good luck with your 2-14 2017 season.

  3. Dumb move by Rick Smith to let this guy go (when he clearly didn’t have to). Texans were 2-14 before he got there, then had 3 straight 9-7 seasons and got 1 step further each year (barely missed playoffs in 2014, lost in Wild Card in 2015, and lost in Divisional Round in 2016) after he got there.

  4. Hehateme says: What would the bills do without the X-Dolphins coming in?
I agree. Whether it’s Rexy signing Gillislee or Ritchie boy, or the Pegulas signing Gaine and Beane, this team does have and maybe always will tend to sign X-Dolphins! Do the Bills really think signing X-Dolphins will help them beat the Dolphins (which, if that’s the case considering how often they beat the Fins anyway…I mean, Tannehill has never won in Buffalo….they need Matt Moore to do that….I don’t see what the deal is). I really do not see how signing X-Dolphins will help them win the division.

The Bills are gonna do what the Bills are gonna do!
