Cowboys’ Jourdan Lewis faced previous domestic violence accusation

The Cowboys took cornerback Jourdan Lewis in the third round of this year’s draft even though he has a July trial date on a domestic violence charge. And it turns out that wasn’t the only time he was accused of domestic violence while he was at Michigan.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the same girlfriend who is accusing Lewis in this case also called 911 on May 5, 2015 and said the two had a physical altercation.

In that incident, the girlfriend told police Lewis “pushed her backward with both hands,” into closet doors, hard enough that she knocked the doors off their tracks. She also said Lewis grabbed her, pulled her and caused her to fall on her knee. And she said that when she called 911, Lewis hit her hand twice to try to stop her from calling.

Police asked the girlfriend if she wanted an order of protection against Lewis and she declined. Prosecutors decided not to press charges against him.

Lewis has said he is “completely innocent” and the Cowboys have said they think he is a man of good character. The NFL’s personal-conduct policy does not apply to actions before a player is in the league.

  1. Not piling on the Cowboys just cuz they’re the Cowboys but last few years have had a lot of headlines with both words Violence and Cowboys in em

  2. I don’t condone physical abuse by any means but if this is the case with the 1st altercation, then why go back to him?

So we’re gonna pretend this is a controversial draft pick and no other NFL team drafted a player with more to be concerned about?
    ========================

So you’re going to pretend “All the other kids were doing it” is a legit defense? For the Cowboys? Why not just own it instead?

  4. Michigan fan here and I dont remember this being any news while he was in college hmmm…. Why do women abusers get protected by authority.

  5. I’ve known about this stuff since draft day. Now why haven’t the Cowboys been blasted like the Bengals? Greg Hardy, Pacman Jones, Dez Bryant, Randy Gregory, Zeke Elliott, Rolando McClain, DeMarcus Lawrence, taking the risk on La’el Collins, etc. What Jourdan Lewis did was just as bad (probably worse if you think about it) than what Joe Mixon did, yet nothing was mentioned of he or Caleb Brantley (knocked a girl’s tooth out) on draft day.

  6. Gotta love the trolls on here. I think the only CLEAR thing about this story is that these two people need to stay away from one another. All the rest is speculation and he said/she said. Obviously, given what we have sadly seen in recent years, there is a firm chance that Lewis has been abusive. It is also equally likely that in these incidences she has been physically abusive to him (or they got to shoving back-and-forth), and any physical contact on his part was defensive. Now, a peak-physical-condition athlete needs to make sure to never cross certain lines even in defense (such as delivering a haymaker to the head of a woman, as we have seen before), but it isn’t as if you can avoid “laying a hand” on a woman if the woman is imposing herself on you. We have no clear evidence as to which way it went here, so assuming either way is irresponsible and unfair.

  7. @PFT loves the Steelers says:

wow, you know quite a bit about the Cowboy players!

btw, I forgot the Steelers never had any trouble makers on their team, i.e, Joey Porter, Ben Roethlesberger, etc.

  8. Til this day… Decades later… Skeleator still thinks he can make a team of champions like in Johnsons Miami and Dallas days… And that he was the real HC and talent guru…. It’s actually pathetic..

How’s the Eagles SB trophy case coming along? Jerry’s rings might have been due to Jimmy’s influence, but he’s actually won three Super Bowls. I’ll give you credit, Lurie has lost three straight NFC championship games AND a SB in that same time period….

    “Innocent until proven guilty folks…”

In the court of law, yes.
In the court of public opinion and the court of Goodell. That is a different matter all together.

And I bet they made up the very next day and was all lovey dovey around campus.

  12. maust1013 never said simply said with the Bengals and Raiders drafting a legit woman beater and a potential rapist why are they writing about this? Oh yea because it’s the Cowboys. Don’t put words in my mouth

  13. But……no one told Frank Clark and Jourdan Lewis that “Maize & Blue” wasn’t referring to the color of welts on their girlfriends bodies.

  14. Jordan Lewis is a good character guy. Two time all-american and has no criminal history, this situation does not make or break that. Do not condone domestic violence but from what I’ve read outside of the scope of this article is that he is absolutely innocent of the current charge and will be vindicated at his trial.

  15. I will reserve judgement on Jourdan Lewis until the courts decide.

As the GF, she is a dope. Either she is too stupid to leave him or she is trying to cash in on his cash. Either way, she’s a dope.

  16. Have fun trolls. The truth is the Cowboys are in the bottom percentage of teams having players getting arrested. Not to mention this SUPPOSEDLY trouble happened before he was a Cowboy. It just shows how much you knuckleheads are drawn to America’s team. Look up the teams where players are in trouble the most and feel stupid when you can…
